5.0 out of 5 stars Great compilation album - a perfect present, 28 Jan 2011

This review is from: Couldn't Get It Right (Audio CD)
This compilation includes some of the greatest songs recorded by a great electric blues-to-rock band during the classic rock era, from 1969 on. It takes its name from their biggest hit single. The band started out as The Climax Chicago Blues Band and had to change their name a few times to avoid confusion with Chicago, a successful American contemporary. What makes them so special? Well, I was playing a track once and as a memorable riff drifted out my friend asked, "What's that sound? I don't recognise it." I had to explain that it was guitar and sax played so tight they sounded like one instrument. And that sums it up. Not for nothing was their 1971 album called "Tightly knit". Sense of Direction, title track of their 1974 studio album, is possibly my all-time favourite, ever.

This cd contains the hard to obtain "Sense of direction" and the original "Couldn't get it right", not the later reissues or covers. Brilliant.
