4.0 out of 5 stars A galaxy of fun
.
What a surprisingly good film! Sci-fi stories, by their very nature are difficult to make into successful comedies but this is a rare example of how to do it perfectly.
This film is a genuine masterpiece. It sends up shows like Star Trek and Babylon 5 very cleverly without ever deteriorating into clumsy, high school camp parody.
Everyone has seen some...

Loads of fun for the entire family. Outstanding comedy minute by minute. It will certainly find a well deserved top place on history. This movie became a hidden pearl by not having Oscar Nominations for whatever bureaucratic reason. Not to be missed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Take every sci-fi film, roll into a ball. Then laugh at it., 13 May 2001

What happens after the cameras have stopped, when the audience have tuned to another station and you've been type-cast? The answer lies here - you go to the conventions and say those damned lines again...
Galaxy Quest is a blending of almost every science fiction film and television show you've ever seen. Between laughing so much you have to pause it, you'll find a take off of almost anything - and anyone - you can think of. With a cast almost born to the roles they play, and crisp direction, Galaxy Quest is one of the rare breed of comedy films that also manages to tell a story.

In my eyes Alan Rickman makes this film!
This is a great spoof film of Star Trek, and films in general. The cast are fantastic and I laughed from the beginning till the end. Great for all the family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Coolest movie in (light)-years, 4 Sep 2001

This was my discovery of the year. The combination of comedy and sci fi is really lethal for your facial muscles... By the way Sigourny Weaver rules.

Great performances, perfect casting, sharp dialogue and a nice comic tone - a well-observed and reverential spoof of the sci-fi genre and fan base.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most underrated comedy ever!, 8 Nov 2011
This review is from: Galaxy Quest [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Galaxy Quest is probably the most underrated comedies ever in entire history of movie business. It was never fully appreciated by audience and also not liked initially by film critics. The truth is that if you are fan of science-fiction or you know some of s-f classics you will find this movie incredibly funny.
Story focused on actors who were starring in TV series Galaxy Quest. That is obviously link to Star Trek. Cast is simply amazing: Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Allan Rickman are creating probably their best comedy performances. Big shock to everyone who knows Ms. Weaver as she plays typical blond bimbo who "does only one lazy job" in TV series (repeats computer's messages). They are fantastic team together. Also all supportive cast of aliens is terrific, i.e: Enrico Colantoni as Mathesar, Patrick Breen as Quellek and (especially) Missi Pyle as Laliari are extremely funny.
Special effects are on the highest level. It is comedy of course but all space ships, space itself, equipment etc. are really believable (even beryl sphere!).
Worth mentioning are extras on latest Blu-Ray edition. You get full bucket of super supplements and one of the funniest moment ever is to watch rap performed by Sigourney Weaver & the team.

(US Blu-Ray edition contains English, French, Portuguese, Spanish subtitles and disc is region-free that means you can play it everywhere outside US as well.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Comic classic, 6 Dec 2002

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Galaxy Quest [DVD] [2000] (DVD)
This film is firstly a comedy, and as such is very funny. The top class cast has Tim Allen, the voice of Buz Lightyear, playing a Captain Kirk like character to Alan Rickman's Alien first officer. The glamour is provided by Sigourney Weaver as you have never seen her before.
The idea of putting sci-fi actors into space and acting their roles for real works very well. So many in-jokes if you are a fan of Star Trek, but even if you never watch sci-fi films you will find this a joy.
Good family viewing.
