5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant.
I have a thing for films that cast no judgement. This is one such film, that follows some pretty horrible kids around for 24 hours, but there is no moral conclusion, and it exposes the attitudes of teenagers 'today'. I recognised quite a few of my peers in that film, particularly among the boys; selfish, arrogant, narrow minded and shallow. The girls' depiction was very...

3.0 out of 5 stars Kids ok for kids
Bought this due to the great reviews ,its not bad but its a film for teens not adults ,the kids are very young 11-15 and the voilence was very limited.
Its about this skinny 14-15 year old talking 12-13 year old virgins into bed then dumping them the next day and the spreading of aids.

4.0 out of 5 stars uncomfortable anyone?, 7 Feb 2005
This review is from: Kids [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
I always say that the only films that don't make you at all uncomfortable aren't worth watching, that is when the film isn't a "Blockbuster". For a non-mainstream film, Kids is a gem. Don't just dismiss it as a youth film, for teenagers to watch and learn from, it is a film that can make everyone think! Truly disturbing and constantly uncomforting, Kids is a true ninties masterpiece!

5.0 out of 5 stars Moralistic and Gratuitous, 20 April 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Kids [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
This movie is essential viewing. Not only does it have the best soundtrack of the 90s, the acting is superb and the cinematography beautiful. Although the movie has been accused of being gratuitous just for the sake of it, what i took from the film was that kids need better parenting - oh yeah, and don't grow up in new york.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life's backstage uncovered, 13 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Kids [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
The film represents one of those mentally hard to watch movies that depresses the viewer with its real life existance. If you are still wearing pink glasses that movies will take them off.
The scene is set in New York city and the plot reveals ignorance of teenagers in so many aspects of life, howere most impotantly sex. It shows so common obsession of kids with sex as if it was a fashionable hobby meaning of wich is unknown to them, and consequences are not even imagined. However, movie does contain interesting and contadicting views of both sexes on various aspects of life.
I found it very educating not only for parents but for teenagers as well. Moreover, I think that this movie should be available to a younger public than the age restriction for the movie is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the teenage psychie, 22 April 2002
This review is from: Kids [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
This film has to be something that everyone should see, it has so many levels to it, and one i feel that needs to be commented on is humour, the movie may have a dark subplot and be full of drugs and sex but ultimately this movie will make teenagers laugh because to some it will feel like it is very close to their own lives and to others it will seem like its the exact opposite. Yes it can be disturbing, but ultimately life can be too i feel that it has successful exageratted the lives of the characters within based loosely on the current direction of modern society. Watch it because it will entertain you in so many ways and it will draw you into their lives so much that u can stop watching till it has finshed completely. The aspects it is shot in are also something which it pioneering in my opinion and only heightens the veiwing experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth seeing, 1 April 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Kids [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
There are several levels to this DVD. You can see it as a morality play, as a documentary-style day-in-the-life film, or as a glorification of the seamier side of youth culture.

However underneath it all is a plot which follows the conventions of a Greek tragedy and achieves its cathartic effect on the viewer exactly as a tragedy should.

Ignore the hype, view with an open mind.

2.0 out of 5 stars average, 26 Oct 2005
This review is from: Kids [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
i was really disappointed by this film. id heard it was amazing, rushed out to watch it and thought it was pretty average/

this is the film- boy has aids. sleeps with girl. she gets aids. sleeps with boy. he gets aids and so on and so on

it barely touches on how they feel about it,the effect of it all. the main guy (the one who likes virgins) i could barely understand what he was saying. this film IS contraversial IS shocking but ISNT particularly good. topic could have been handled so much better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hopelessly depressing, 20 May 2009
By
This review is from: Kids [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
This movie has no redeeming qualities whatsoever other than the fact that the young "actors" are quite believable. It left me angry, hurt, depressed and without any hope for the future. It disgusted me to my very soul. I felt like beating some sense into those boys with a sledge hammer. I have the same feelings about Clark's other movies like Ken Park. I just get angry when I think about his films.

Honestly, if this is REALLY what it's like being a teenager in the big city these days... Then I'm very happy I grew up in the countryside where we were brought up with VALUES. Values that I remember to this day and values that make me recognize this film for what it is: a piece of filth.

To echo the thoughts of other reviwers: in short- disappointing. Controversy for controversy's sake. I'm not impressed, really. The film wasn't awful though. It just did not live up the hype.
