5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Talent!, 22 Dec 2000
This review is from: New Year [CD 1] (Audio CD)
When I first heard Overload I was a bit unsure, and didnt think it would appeal to many people BUT it grew on me! Much like the brill album "One Touch" has. The first listen of it was good but listening to it more I started to reeeally love it, and have been listening to it loads now! "New Year" is fantastic and has been correctly released for Xmas, and fits perfectly! But I cant beleive "New Years" only going to scrape into the Top 20!! It should have been Christmas Number 1 (these girls' talent really deserves to be put at number 1). The album is overall a masterpiece but unfortunately at the moment doesn't look like its going to be making an impact on the charts, because of "bands" like Westlife, Bob the builder, and other such teen pop clogging up the charts hiding the "real" talent. It shows the state of the UK music industry. But hopefully these brilliant girls will get some BIG recognition next year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet sweet suga!, 18 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: New Year [CD 1] (Audio CD)
Sugababes, after their decent debut single Overload, return with a tune which manages to improve on the first single. New Year is one of the few Xmas singles which deserves to hit the top spot - Westlife should be banned! Anyway, the song is smooth and well produced. The girls show they ain't teenyboppers and their vocal range is fab. They are the only girlband along with All Saints who actually have talent. This may be a pop song but it is good pop - not sickly sweet or bland like most of the tunes around today. This is mature and the word 'Christmas' which appears in the chorus does not spoil the song though you think it might. However, this is not a novelty single!
Also the bonus tracks are well worth a listen - the R'n'B funk of Sugababes On The Run makes up for its silly title. Meanwhile, Forever, is a cool chill out ballad.
So pick it up and make a song which deserves it make the No.1 spot this year!
