5.0 out of 5 stars A music for the heart, 20 April 2001
By
This review is from: In The Mood For Love (Audio CD)
Just imagine to walk around London, climbing underground stairs and meeting all sorts of human crowd with this music in your ears... This is an album that you will never forget. As the film, its flavour enters your mind and your heart, leaving you with a melancholic sense of lost loves and lost things and willing to listen to it again and again. It does not matter if the film and part of the music actually suggest an Asian scenario. The sound of the viola of Yumeji's theme and the contrast provided by the warm voice of Nat King Cole are great enough to suit universal environments. It is not just the beauty of the music: it is the way it matches every step on your way (if you are walking around, as Yumeji) and every shadow in your room (if you are sitting alone in the dark, smoking a cigarette, as her lover)that make you never forget that rythm and that melody.
For those who have experienced what it means to leave for ever the room of the person you have loved without having said you have loved him/her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brillant Film, Brillant Soundtrack, 11 Dec. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: In The Mood For Love (Audio CD)
To watch this film of HK's most important film director is a pleasure and to listen to this soundtrack is a great experience. So closely link with the mood of the film & the tracks are either very carefully selected or are so suitably created. Never before in HK film history has a film possessed with the strength of powerful vision & powerful listening. Desparately awaiting for the next release from Wong Kar Wai: 2046.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strange and wonderful soundtrack., 15 April 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: In The Mood For Love (Audio CD)
This soundtrack combines music of so many genres that initially it seems lacking in cohesion. But on further playing it becomes like listening to fragments of the radio- or eavesdropping on someone's life.
Beautifully haunting modern tracks combine with old Chinese music and Nat King Cole singing in Spanish. It's strange but it works.
The voice of singer Zhou Xuan (track 11) was considered so beautiful in the 1930's that she was known as Shanghai's "Golden Throat".

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, 3 Jun. 2007
This review is from: In The Mood For Love (Audio CD)
Great soundtrack which evokes the movie really well. There appears to be a select choice in the genre of music. There is the classical such as that wonderful waltz called 'Yumeji's Theme'. I think the classical songs are the strongest on the soundtrack. They are recorded with one or two violins and consequently sound sensual and passionate. Then there are the Nat King Cole spanish tunes where he sings in spanish. These are great also, he has a wonderful vocal style and are an absolute joy to listen to. Then there is the retro chinese stuff which is good also. I think they evoke a sense of time and space well and some of them sound pretty old. Overall a good soundtrack and worth it for 'Yumeji's theme' alone

This album has some great tracks (one for all: Yumeji's Theme)but quite few songs appear to be a "filling"... Would have been better to have just the main theme, songs from Nat King Cole and all of the traditional chinese music of the period... Nothing else. That's the only reason for not giving 5 stars to a CD that could be one of the soundtracks in your life...
This is intimate music and very pleasent. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lush, 16 Nov. 2000
By
This review is from: In The Mood For Love (Audio CD)
I thought this movie was quite touching and very lavish. Typical Wong Kar Wai, brilliantly done and so much to think about after the movie. The soundtrack went so well with the show, a little over dramatic at times, but mostly it was brilliantly timed and enhanced the feeling of regret, sadness and sexual tension of the protagonists. Some Lush classical sounding tunes, although I can't say I was that keen on the sung numbers....
