5.0 out of 5 stars MUCH UNDERRATED SINGER
I FIRST HEARD OF TONI CHILDS WHEN I SAW THE FILM THELMA AND LOUISE, THE SONG HOUSE OF HOPE APPEARED ON THE SOUNDTRACK. THIS COLLECTION ALSO CONTAINS THE EXCELLENT BUT SLIGHTLY SPOOKY THE DEAD ARE DANCING. THIS COLLECTION SHOWS HER VERSATILITY AND SHOWCASES A UNIQUE VOICE.....

3.0 out of 5 stars buy 'Union' instead
Toni Childs was one of the Great Unknowns, capable of creating songs of phenomenal beauty. Later on, she went into her 'I am Wummin' phase, in which she screeches unpleasantly. This complilation has far too many of these ghastly dirges. Her masterpiece is 'Union', so buy that instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars forgotten singer, 3 Aug. 2012

Had "Union" on an old cassette from the '90's, and have tried to get a copy on CD at a reasonable price for years, as Toni Childs voice was a thing of wonder. Never out of print, but never cheap either. Saw this in the swap shop section of Metrocentre HMV for £2. Smiling from ear to ear on the way home, which didn't stop when disc played loud. "Don't walk away" at the top of my voice to the embarrasment of the rest of the household. One of the few artists from the eighties who is actually as good as I remember them being.
PS. next time I was there, I saw "Union" for £2 as well. Result. Some duplication of first 5 tracks, but these are remastered from the original tapes, so sound even better than the originals do. A bit like Joan Osborne, cursed with one killer album, but what an album. There is more to Toni Childs than that as this disc shows. A survivor of the late 80's/ early 90's female singer/ songwriter boom. 10/10. Anyone want an old cassette ?

Heard "Walk and talk like angels" on a Miami Vice episode and bought this CD. Unfortunately that was the only track I ended up still liking, there are a few other decent tracks but nothing that I will remember, the rest is sugarcoated, bubble-gum ethnopop. No thanks.
