5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best metal albums in years!, 21 Oct 2001

Its hard to believe when you ask someone 'have you heard of hammerfall' then say no.Hammerfal are a great band, just as good as Helloween, if not better,This is the best album they have released so far, each track bringing something new, while still delivering their unque brand of power metal. 'templars of steel' is a great track, sounds as if it should have been on Iron Maidens 'brave new world' album, great long intro, giving a good introduction to the album by keeping you in suspense, then it bursts into full on heavy riffage! complete with mind blowing vocals from joacim cans, whos voice is inbetween Bruce Dickinson and Andi Deris, this is one of the best tracks on the album...now for THE best track on the album 'keep the flame burning',what a track! next up is the title track, great song, somewhat like Helloween's 'i want out'then its 'living in victory' another great track, the second best track on the album, great lyrics, great vocals with a riff to die for, then is a great song,a ballad and HammerFall's best ballad 'always will be' a tale of love and a break up,then comes the first filler 'way of the warrior' a great track but not the best,a great riff with some avarage lyrics, but good melodey, then its 'destined for glory' another great track, good vocals and riffs, the next track 'the champion' a great riff, but disapointing chorus, then is the instrumental 'raise the hammer' a good chance for the band to show their talents, then 'a legend reborn' a great track with a cool headf*ck rhythm and loads of cools guitar riffs and good vocals, this is a must for any metal fan,any one who likes iron maiden buy this NOW

4.0 out of 5 stars Hammerfall's strongest album so far., 5 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Renegade (Audio CD)
Hammerfall continues to place the best songs early on the album.
1. Templars of steel
A typical Hammerfall song that sets the incentive for the album, you hear at once that Hammerfall has been developing their unique form of Power Metal. Rating 4.
2. Keep the flame burning 3. Renegade 4. Living the victory
Three songs that alone make the album worth while. Potential single releases all three; they are the highlight of the album. Rating 5.
5. Always will be
The mandatory power ballad, surprisingly good! Their best ballad so far. Rating 4.
6. Way of the warrior 7. Destined for glory 8. Champion 9. Rise the hammer 10. Legend reborn
Five songs that are obviously written to fill up the album. Hammerfall now have the potential of a Greatest Hits album with the first five songs from every album, thus creating a landmark in the Power Metal genre, but those five songs goes in one ear and out the other. The instrumental "Raise the Hammer" was something I was looking forward to, but nooo, a disappointment also. Rating 3.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Power-Metal Classic!!!, 7 May 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Renegade (Audio CD)
This is without a doubt one of the best metal albums released in the last few years. Highlights are "Templars Of Steel", "Living In Victory" and "Always Will be", although every song is worth listening to. Dramatic power metal with a good level of musical development. A must-have for anyone who is even remotely interested in Power Metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent fantasy Ballards to great Metal music, 9 Aug 2001
This review is from: Renegade (Audio CD)
Hammerfall are a relativly unheard of band. Their cover art is great which is why i brought this c.d. Listerning to the msic was a pleasent supprise; It contains fantasy stories (ballards) to the classsic hard rock/metal music style. Even more pleaseing is the complete lack of swearing that tends to degrade most "modern" metal bands. I thougherly recomend this c.d to those who like the stlye of iron maiden, guns n roses, ACDC etc etc.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)

This is a ridiculous requirement as the headline says all I wish to relay about this matter. This may stop me giving feedback in future.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love old school buy this!, 13 Nov 2009
This review is from: Renegade (Audio CD)
If you like Judas Priest,Helloween,Iron Maiden at their collective best you're going to love this album! I've been listening to rock/metal all my life and have been playing metal guitar for the past 26 years, and this to my ears is a great album. The thing with a lot of music these days is that it misses the point, the point being to entertain.I want something that I can hum along to,a melody I can identify with, sure there are some great new bands out there but a lot have lost the sense of fun in pursuit of being technically brilliant musicians or creating something "different".
This is standard metal fare of the old school, silly lyrics, walls of melodic riffs, screaming solos, big choruses just what metal should be. I defy any normal mortal to listen to any of the first four tracks more than once and not find themselves whistling or humming a riff or chorus line from at least one of them.
You're not going to find anything new here, but what you will find is well written, well played and well produced.
This is the sound of five guys loving what they do and doing what they do brilliantly. The twin guitars are melodic and well played, the vocalist bares more than a passing nod to the mighty Bruce of Maiden fame and the drums and bass provide a perfect backdrop.
Yes there is the odd weaker moment but on the strength of the brilliant( of which there is much) that is totally forgivable.
Buy this if you love old school stuff well played and then tell me I was wrong, but if you do I won't take any notice I'll be too busy singing along to this!
