5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning concept opus from Sweden's latest prog metal kings!, 1 Dec. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Perfect Element (Audio CD)
POS' third album, another masterful concept piece, deserves to elavate this Swedish band to much greater heights. Uncomfortably labelled 'prog/metal' each track has its own rich identity shifting from quiet, acoustic moments one minute - rippin' guitars the next all seamlessly blended with strings, piano and even the gentle sounds of a musical box! Despite its 70mins plus no track outstays its welcome and the melodic, soulful vocals of band guru Daniel Gildenlow complement the music perfectly. Don't be put off by the metal tag as it really doesn't suit. POS have achieved one of the hidden gems of the year - if you liked Dream Theatre's last opus Scenes from Metropolis then buy this album!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this one of the greatest rock albums of all time?, 12 Sept. 2010

If you don't mind tweaking your EQ and giving this album half a dozen listens, you'll discover that this little-known Swedish band have delivered a genuine rock masterpiece. It's message - that those who endure childhoods of abuse face lives of self-destruction - is emotive stuff, expressed through profound lyrics and stunning musicianship. The band's driving force, Daniel Gildenlow, is a prodigious talent with a staggering vocal range that fuses rage, joy and anguish in soaring screams and whispered intimacies. Not a minute passes without some astonishing development in rhythm or arrangement, while the melodies and harmonies are spectacular. This passion-packed recording simply does not let up, building inexorably to a heart-wrenching finale. Perfect Element is one of those albums that reveals new rewards during years of repeated listening. Truly, absolutely and sublimely awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Element (In your cd collection), 3 Feb. 2003
This review is from: Perfect Element (Audio CD)
Not so often do you find a band that has a very unique way of expressing themselves.
Daniel Gildenlow's(Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist) lyrics will leave you breathless, they are very compelling and full of emotion, you can relate to a lot of what he writes about in every day situations and remind us of what is really going on in this dirty money-oriented planet. Gildenlow's singing range is simply amazing; he can go from haunting deep to sky high.
This band is like none other that you have heard of and need more recognition. I went to see them last year (28th January) who were supporting Dream Theater,
I had never of them before and i am glad that i had found a band that was not overstruck with greed and all sold-out.
These guys remind us that music is not an art, not entertainment or an industry. Too many bands/artists forget this and are overcome with greed, some never even possess this knowledge. So i ask of you take a heed, these guys will amaze you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A work of art., 21 Feb. 2012
Someone who knows a lot more about music than me recently recommended this "concept album". Probably due to my thrash metal roots, my brain translates "concept album" into "self-gratifying, indulgent tosh".

I'm glad I followed my friends recommendation....this album is superb. Dark lyrics brilliantly delivered, over what can only be described as a beautiful tapestry of music, make this album a must have. Yes, the metal bits aren't as hard and frequent as I'd normally look for, but the sheer "big-ness" of the music and story is impressive.

Interestingly, I felt so drained after hearing the album for the first time (and I suggest the first listen needs to be uninterrupted), I was apprehensive to listen to it again. Masochistically, I've listened to it over and over again over the last few weeks!

An excellent album that has ensured I will be following up with more PoS purchases.
