5.0 out of 5 stars What A Christmas Cracker!, 30 Nov 2002
By
C. R. Williams "rockinhepcat" (UK) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: White Christmas (Audio CD)
A nice arrangement of styles (and decades) are presented on this album. There are some stompin' rockers to get ya rockin' in ya Christmas stockings "Blue Christmas", Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me" and the riotous "Santa Claus Is Back In Town". If you're in the mood for something a little more mellow, or ya feeling a little blue, then there's the smooth ballads and the cool blues numbers to bring ya down "If Every day Was Just Like Christmas", "Here Comes Santa Claus", "Merry Christmas Baby", "I'll Be Home For Christmas Day" and probably the best version of "White Christmas" I have ever heard.
If you're looking for the more traditional Christmas carols, Elvis presents us with his incredible vocal rang in tracks such as "Silent Night", "The First Noel" & "O Little Town Of Bethlehem".

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Christmas.............or anytime!, 18 May 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: White Christmas (Audio CD)
This is utterly stunning; and the only christmas album the should be considered essential (apart from El's origianl xmas album).
What can be said about raw, dirty rhythm and blues christmas songs. The likes of "Santa Claus is Back in Town" is excellent, the lyrics and performance outstanding. "Merry Christmas Baby" from 1971 is blues, absolutely incredible and must be considred among the very very best songs Elvis ever made.
The doo-wop/rock n roll version of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" is a masterpiece; although Mr Berlin tried to have it banned, this is unique and compelling.
"Blue Christmas" is here; it had to be, but so is lesser known gems, like "I'll Be Home On Christmas Day", another bluesy/country song. The huge "Why Can't Every Day Be Like Christmas" plus more exceptional rock n roll in the form of "Here Comes Santa Claus" and edspecially "Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me."
A few excellent gospel renditions here also, whlist a couple of misfires in the shape of a bland "Silver Bells", and "Winter Wonderland" do nothing to detract from the magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is just great, 12 Nov 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: White Christmas (Audio CD)
Elvis in his arguably most prolific and culturally important period (with the Jordanaires 1950's & 60's) and in festive mood, with sweet swing rythms mixed with a beautiful blend of southern states gospel quartet doo-woop (with christmas bells)...it's gotta be one of the coolest platters to have in your CD Player at christmas. Check out 'Santa bring my baby back to me'...it'll have you tapping your foot and singing in the shower for years to come. I love this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Christmas of de new millennium, 15 Sep 2000
This review is from: White Christmas (Audio CD)
Try to find a better gift for this first Christmas of de new millennium and you wont be home for the joy of this birth. What a great mix that is "Peace in the Valley and White Christmas" both released now. The idea is to give them in advance to your beloved friends so that they may feel de "Gospel" in "Silver Bells".
Love stories that bring "Blues" are more than ever true in human kind history. The King sings it so tenderly that it heals deep down in the soul.
Five stars on that Christmas album. Silence and whiteness in between the words, ringing bells of silver around each tracks, a "Wonderful World of Christmas" that is solid gold with the softness and enthusiasm of the signer.
Summer is gone. The world had not yet ended in Y2Ks bugs or other upheavals. We're all alive inside that Santa Claus coming back feeling. Wake up! It's the "First NoŽl" of the millennium coming so soon that flowers will grow before we dance it, if we're not home based in our traditions right now.
Silent Night, Holy Night... All is bright (Not around) but inside each of us, in that belief of Christ "Mass" on the altar of our dreams, day after day, like "If Everyday Was Christmas".

If you like Elvis, then this is a good album to have for Christmas - easy listening, the classic Christmas songs with a slight Elvis variation of hymn and funk...
