5.0 out of 5 stars Three must see movies that represent the ideology of the 80s, 11 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Running Man/Total Recall/Terminator 2 - Judgement Day [VHS] [1990] (VHS Tape)
What a steal, a bargain that is bound to bring countless hours of enjoyment. Who can forget the gruesome escalator scene in Total Recall, the hilarity in which Buzzsaw is cut by his own weapon... "I love this Saw, its part of me and Im going to make it part of you!", Arnie replys "no you keep it" (Buzzsaw screams like a castrati and is dispatched from the gameshow)
... let temptation guide you

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb set of late 80's/early 90's Arnie movies., 12 Aug 2002
This review is from: The Running Man/Total Recall/Terminator 2 - Judgement Day [VHS] [1990] (VHS Tape)
The Running Man is was one of my favourite movies a few years ago, (as I haven't seen it for some time), and has a unique style. The sleezy game show host brings the dark futuristic style of the film together; a style which is very similar to the computer game that no doubt coppied the film, called Smash TV. The original story by Stephen King under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman introduced the concept of future 'quiz-shows' which are hazardous for the unfortunate contestants. This horrible vision of the future is encapsulated nicely in the 1987 Arnie film.
Total Recall isn't the best of the three, (actually it's the worst), and this is no surprise since it was produced after the 1988 barrier into the unimaginative era of the brink of, and bulk of, the 1990s. The movie lacks atmosphere some of the time, but generally it is a superb Arnie action movie. Some notable characteristics of the film are, firstly, the entire movie bar the opening 10 minutes or so is simply a chase scene with Arnie being pursued by a typical team villains led by a trench coat wearing boss. Sharron Stone plays a very good role in this film as an evil seductress. I don't know why Arnie's acting is criticised because he has a convincing melodramatic style all of his own, not to mention the ample classic idiosyncrasies of his.
I always found the special effects in Terminator 2 in a class of their own, and the way they are implemented, (ie, most notably with T2000), have yet to be copied well surprisingly. The latest graphics in films like The Fellowship Of The Ring, (CGI or something), are still a fledgling style of graphics, and will take a few years before movies utilising it are up to the height reached by the methods used in T2, especially with the use of stunt men in many of the schenes in T2 giving it a superbly realistic style. T2 is a classic action sci-fi, (as all three in this box set are).

What a steal! Three superb films in one set which all merit 5 star reviews off their own backs. If you haven't seen T2 by know you must have been living in a cave in the wilderness. It is without a doubt the highlight of Arnie's career. Total Recall is an amazing film purely by its thought provoking nature and its all action content. The Running Man is in my opinion an action-comedy film in the way that Arnie spills out some of the cheesiest one liners in the movie business. The film itself is a frightening twist on what the media may become in the future, packed with action, with Arnie as the innoncent man playing a violent futuristic gameshow in a way to clear his own name. Great fun allround.

This review is from: The Running Man/Total Recall/Terminator 2 - Judgement Day [VHS] [1990] (VHS Tape)
Most people out there have seen all these movies but this is for those who have not these are three of the best films ever. With Terminator 2 ( the best film of all time ) Total recal ( the strangest film of all time ) and Running Man ( just an excellent film ) this has got to be worth it especially when you look at the price.
