5.0 out of 5 stars A GIANT of Rock--classic/classy stuff!, 6 Feb 2001
This review is from: Black Sabbath (Audio CD)
This will always be remembered as a landmark in the annals of Rock. Sabbath came along with 'simple' lyrics but added a sound that was brand new and unique.Sabbath sing and play music that epitomises the world, then and now:-they sing and play of life and death of the evil that surrounds us in its many forms. Above all, they know about Rock and this their first album shows that to the full. Forget satanism, that was/is a record company trick. N.I.B. is not a true satanist piece of work. Buy this one it really is a Rock classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes u on a Trip - Back to the 60's, 28 Jan 2001

This review is from: Black Sabbath (Audio CD)
What started as a psychedelic/progressive rock band in 1969 became heavy metal gods in 2001, id say this album was just the beginning,Jimi Hendrix was at his height, Cream had just broken up. and Black Sabbath mixed the guitaring sounds of cream and hendrix into a rumbling bass and fast drumming to create this more than a masterpeice, - that day, friday 13 february 1970 -the Day Heavy Metal was Born and the death of the hippie error began!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for a debut album, 10 Sep 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Sabbath (Audio CD)
Black Sabbath is the first album from a group who then went on to become one of the biggest names in the heavy metal world. The album has been the inspiration for many of today's bands to use as a benchmark when trying to reach for musical excellence. Many of the songs contain segments of music that had never been tried before with Black Sabbath and the Wizard being the most notable. People will say why does the album only have 5 tracks but when you hear the quality of those 5 tracks you will realise that they contain enough quality for twice that number. The only weak point about the album is the lyrics, which in places seem to be a bit haphazard and don't seem to go with the music, and in saying this you must remember that the band were only just starting out and the cohesion that was to be there in future albums was not quite just there yet. If you are a Sabbath or Ozzy fan then this album is for you....

5.0 out of 5 stars The First and best heavy metal albem of all time!, 22 Dec 2004
This review is from: Black Sabbath (Audio CD)
This is my favorite albem of all time! I like it so much i have four copies 2 on cd and 2 on vinly one being the much sought after original vertigo swirl! With out this albem there would have have been not metallica, no iron madien, no korn, no pantera, bassicaly no metal music! Black Sabbath formed in 1967 when they were called earth and played blues music. But they soon decided to change their name and make scary music, and in the process of doing this they invented heavy metal.
On firday the 13th heavy metal was born, and hippies were officaly a thing of the past. The first track on this albem 'BLACK SABBATH' is what metal music is all about, it starts off with the bells ring, then goes in to the heavyest riff ever, and then into the doomiest riff and lyrics ever! This song in true sabbath fashion is about a man dying and going to hell!
The next track 'THE WIZZARD' starts off with ozzy on harmonic, but he does not play it like the bestles or the pretty things, he plays it with ultimate doom. The wizzard is a great song with great guitaring from Iommie.
'Behind the wall of'is a song on the bands favorite topic - drugs. Lyricaly the song gets striaght to the point and again the riff is amazing!
The intro to NIB gets Geezer int he spot light as he rightfuly should as he is a great bassist and he is the brains behind most of sabbaths songs. NIB (as named after geezer as his nick name was NIBy i.e pen nib as he wrote alot of songs)is a great song about the devil falling in love and ozzys vocals are amazing on this track.
Next is a cover of the crows 'EVIL WOMEN' which was sabbaths first single. Althought this is a cover sabbath still make it into a heavy metal classic and they make sure they add loads of doom to it!
Next is scary mostly instrumentla song 'SLEEPINF VILLAGE' it starts off with doom vocals and a depressing acustic riff, then goesinto a powerfull guiatr mastpeice!
And finaly the albem ends with another cover an dunbar song 'WARNING' but agin it turned into a doomy heavy metal master peice with one of tony iommies best guitar solos!
On some versions of this albem 'WICKED WORLD' appears, I think that this is the first song the sabbath wrote that is avible to us still today. It was originaly realesed (in short supply) as a demo and then as a b-side to EVIL WOMEN. This is my favorite song of all time and it is sabbath at their best. It was the best lyrics, vocals, and riff ever! I wish that this song would appear on all versions of this albem and was in sabbath live set list more!
Bassicaly this albem is amazing and everyone should have it! it has the best vocalist ever ozzy! By far the best guiatrist ever Iommie! The best bassist ever Geezer who revolutionised bass palying with his drop tuning and the most hardcore drummer ever Bill Ward!
