This review is from: Il Giardino Armonico-Viaggio Musicale/Monteverdi/Rossi/Cima (Audio CD)
This is a whirlwind tour through Northern Italy at the start of the 17th century, with some stunning solo and ensemble work, especially by the wind players, as recorders, dulcians and cornetti tackle the virtuosic sonatas and dances.

A CD best experienced with your tray secured, seat back in the upright position, and seat belt firmly fastened.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real 'sine qua non', 30 Jan 2014
This review is from: Il Giardino Armonico-Viaggio Musicale/Monteverdi/Rossi/Cima (Audio CD)
If my huge collection of 17th-century Italian instrumental music were to be reduced to just one recording (heaven forbid!) this would be it. In the world of changing performance fashions in Baroque music, this treatment will surely last: drama; virtuosity; dancing-and-gay or sombre-and-melancholy when required; informed by scholarship yet not academic; improvisational in parts but still totally faithful to its historical origins; every last emotional contrast teased lovingly from the music. The violin work by Enrico Onofri is sometimes breathaking, but it would be invidious to pick out one musician; the large and varied Giardino supplies outstanding musicians and soloists whenever needed. AWESOME!
