5.0 out of 5 stars Savage & Fantastic Soundtrack, 2 May 2001

This review is from: La Planete Sauvage (Audio CD)
Better known as "Fantastic Planet", this movie soundtrack incorporates the best of early 70s 'progressive' rock, with lots of moody guitar, percussion and synthesiser effects. There's really only one or two major musical themes, elaborated in different arrangements, but it's beautifully performed and very evocative. The composer, Alain Goraguer, was a famous and innovative French musician who worked for many years with Serge Gainsbourg, which may give you some idea of the quality of this work. Highly recommended!

This review is from: La Planete Sauvage (Audio CD)
Alain Goraguer's soundtrack to 1973's La Planete Sauvage is an utterly unique and absorbing prog-funk masterpiece. Consisting of 25 tracks that replay variations of a couple of musical themes, it draws the listener deep into a rich, vast and sonic soundscape. Eerie, playful and beautiful, it never for one second falters. Featuring wah-wah guitar, clavinet (an electrophonic keyboard), choral arrangements, solid percussion, Pink Floyd style guitar - this is mood music with plenty of groove. With a running time of 38 minutes, it demands the listener's attention and is best listened to as a single song cycle.

CD liner notes include illustrations from the film and brief biographies on Goraguer and the film's artist, director and writer.
