5.0 out of 5 stars Taking house into the 21st century, 8 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Colours (Audio CD)
This is one album that I would recomend to anyone who has the love of finding house music that is different from everything else. Circulation are two very clever blokes who know something about what they are doing and what they are trying to achieve. CD 1 is great for listening in your room, car or anywhere you feel is possible. It includes some sublime tracks like White and the excellent Green tracks. As for CD 2, well it takes on a clubbing journey of what Circulation are about. Blending some sublime house, techno, and progressive house into one flowing movement. The most notable track being amber that stands out by far, incorporating eastern sounds with house. A perfect tune to play for as the sun is setting or as the sun is rising. So by far this is one of the best CD's in house music from last year. If you like house, then you will love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid house album - keep coming back to it, 27 Nov 2002
This review is from: Colours (Audio CD)
This album is great - 2 CDs full of intelligent, deep, melodic house thats easy to lose yourself in and just as easy to get funkin' to. It may be similar in a couple of places, especially between the first green on scarlet on CD1 - but is just really good overall. The opening song 'Cerise' is nice and moody, and keeps this theme with the 'Green', 'Tuquoise' and 'Scarlet' tracks, all the way though to the end of 'Magenta' while thowing in some uplifting classics like 'White' 'Green (2)' and 'Cyan'. THe second CD has a clubbie edge but keeps the intelligent side with the slightly lengthy 'Aqua', with its smile-inducing layers and tasty bass. Tracks like 'Amber' and 'Mauve' are true uplifting house to watch time fly by and the sun rise up in the morning, while 'Orange' and 'Beige' keep the funk coming and the listening crowd happy. You could listen to this in you home, or put it on at a party, both would be equally devastating, but watch out - you need to be patient, and also like you music to be delicate and complicated, not, as the other reviewer put it 'hands in the air trance'

4.0 out of 5 stars Tech-House, Tribal House - Who Cares, 10 Nov 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Colours (Audio CD)
I bought this CD on the basis of one review in Muzik. If you're looking for hands in air trance, then don't go anywhere near this. It's intelligent, melodic, beautiful music that's as easy to listen to at home, in the car or in a club. As Mr C put it, "It's Techno for Girls and House for Boys". Quite simply - blissfull

I bought this in what must have been either the latter part of 2000 or early part of 2001. I remember just randomly picking it up on a whim in my local (HMV)as I really liked the artwork something about it really caught my eye. I put it back on the shelf bought a music magazine read a review telling me that it was some form of chillout house music that needed to be heard. So went back into the store to pick it up it was reduced in the bargain basement bins... so I bought it there and then.

got home played it, played it again, and again and again, several months went by played it some more. brilliant chillout house music wish they'd make a new album.

4.0 out of 5 stars rhythm and intricate drum programming, 11 Feb 2003
This review is from: Colours (Audio CD)
This certainly slipped out into the release stream with little fanfare, a bit surprising when you think of the range of DJ's, house and trance, playing their tunes. The duo of Paul Davis and Matt Jackson certainly pack enough rhythm and intricate drum programming to keep the spinners interested, and here their progressive-leaning, vocal-free tunes are collected into a two-disc album that explores every nook and cranny within the limited musical boundaries they've set. Mostly served at mid-tempo, the tracks may sway a bit ambient ("Cerise") mellow ("Turquoise") beautiful ("Green") or sultry ("Scarlet") but stick to the prescribed plan.
That's certainly not a criticism; the stores are lined with records of lofty goals and failed achievements, and if this were a bedroom-produced IDM album their proficiency would get raves- but this is house music, which seems so easy to make.
Track by track this is excellent, but over the course of one CD (or two) it inevitably blurs into a comfortable background groove. Which is fine, some days the music doesn't have to be the star
