5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful chip of the old block!, 30 Oct 2001
I must admit I was a bit apprehensive about buying this, being a big fan of his father...But I need'nt have worried. Teddy is a class songwriter, wonderful songs that have you humming along straight away, plus some lovely guitar work from Dad thrown in for good measure...Shame Mother could'nt make it along for a vocal performance. I was also suprised to find it was produced by another fav of mine Joe Henry...Well worth checking out too if you like this. Stunning Debut, looking forward to more.... Now does anybody recommend Rufus Wainwright?

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, 26 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Teddy Thompson has a talent that deserves independent recognition - he's far more than just 'Richard's son' (or indeed, the equally under-rated Linda's son), as this album shows. His songs are deft and the lyrics are as neat and clever as the melodies, delivered in an intimate, warm style that will make a tiny private concert hall of your car stereo. This is a collection of beautiful songs about love and loss and dealing with your own demons that you'll hear in the back of your head for days. And he's even better live. Why no Mercury Music Prize nomination??

4.0 out of 5 stars More ordinary than his dad, and yet . . ., 26 Mar 2006
. . . definitely worth buying. He can't write a lyric like his dad, his voice isn't even a quarter as interesting as his dad's, and he's lucky enough to have his dad play guitar for him here - and NOBODY can play guitar like his dad - but this is a very good pop album. Don't expect anything deep and dark, don't expect a glimpse into the abyss: expect to feel good. While Richard is dark, Teddy is light. But Teddy's good at what he does too. Definitely one of the better albums you'll hear this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely, mind-blowingly fantastic!, 19 Sep 2001
By fluffyducksuitsyou@hotmail.com (Worcestershire, England) - See all my reviews
I went to see Teddy, acting as a support to Al Stewart a few days ago. I must admit I had reservations but after hearing the first song I was all ears and couldn't wait to purchase the album that night. Unfortunately all copies had gone, but I was lucky enough to find it here on Amazon, and what can I say??!!!

I have listening to one particular track non-stop ("Brink of Love"). In the day I have to hide the album from my mum in fear of her stealing it and never giving it back as she loves it too!!

Anyway, I must be off, a certain album to listen to and all!!

Wonderful, marvelous, entertaining, mellow, yet not at all depressing, definitely an album to remember!

Grace

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh boy, this is good!, 17 Jul 2001

A friend played me this without telling me who it was. A little bit of Richard Thompson on guitar, great songs, but who was singing? I was impressed, and guess what? It get's even better the more you listen. These songs will stay with you a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Faultless, 18 Jun 2001
By A Customer
I bought this then unheard-of artist on the basis of listening to a few tracks in the shop and it's been playing non-stop in my CD player (and in my head) ever since.

Mellow, catchy, wry, emotive, melodious, a little bit country/folksy but without the depressing melancholy... and every song is worthy of praise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic, chilled debut., 10 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Having never heard any of Teddy Thomspson's material, I considered myself quite daring to spend my pennies on this album. But it was a worthwhile gamble. Thompson's mellow vocals are the perfect remedy for a less-than-perfect day. My two favourite tracks have to be 'All That I See' and the fantastically vengeful 'Thanks A lot'. Other highlights include 'Days in the Park', and the final unlisted track. I'd go so far as to call this album an essential addition to your collection. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A chip off the old block, 9 Mar 2001
I grew up listening to his dad and I was worried it would be a poor version of him. I was wrong, it is superb. There is just the occasional hint of Thompson senior but it's none the worse for that. The last track, Walk in the Park, is perfection with a stunning guitar from Richard. All we want now is another record from mum!

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty good, 20 Dec 2001
By A Customer
Quite an impressive debut, given the weight of expectation that must have been on him, although I had expected his guitar playing to be a bit more advanced due to those precious genes! The smooth arrangements are given power by some ragged guitar solos from his dad, + good supporting vocals from his high-profile chums. One thing that annoys me though is that his voice is just slightly out of tune!
