Very dissapointing game.
Game control is lousy at best. Flyability is a big fat zero. Why people rant and rave about it is beyound me.
Rent it - even then its money down the tubes.
Dont do it - you have been warned

The enemies in this game have great AI,you fire your laser at the enemy target and they dodge and swoop in for the cheap shot. Before you can get into the actual game itselt yoyu must learn the ropes and the moves in a training field where you will eventually have to battle with the trainer herself. I wuold recommend this game to anyone loves shoot-em-ups and because of its title it will obviosly appeal to your star wars loving dad, OVERALL RATING=4 STARS

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Shoot-em-up ever, 17 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Wars Episode 1: Starfighter (PS2) (Video Game)
Amazing! The game sticks closely to the film, from the missions, to the ships and planets. The controls suit the gameplay, the first analogue controls the ship, and the second controls the wings (you can spin or turn to avoid rocks jutting out of cliffs.) . I don't own this myself, but my friend does and I've borrowed it 9 times in under 2 months! Only a tenner more to save, and this game will be mine! I recommend this game even if you don't like stars wars, because it'll be a classic in 5 years, guaranteed!

This game has an excellent storyline. It's graphics are awesome, you pilot different starfighters and play as different characters, all ships have missiles. There are hours of play and lots of action. You fly around many planets including Naboo. You fight back the trade federation, you also get to fly into their giant battleship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Starfighter: the first PS2 Star Wars game is great, 12 July 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Wars Episode 1: Starfighter (PS2) (Video Game)
The first three star wars films spawned a whole generation of games in their own right, a lot of them very good. Star Wars Star Fighter is one of those very good games. Instead of following the normal story line of TPM LucasArt made an [almost] completly new story line.
Basically this story line involved three pilots going of and fighting evil [wow] but this works.
The game makes full use of the Dual Shock 2 controller by using the left stick to go left and right and the right stick to roll. This is incredibly easy to master in about 5 minutes (in the first ,amazingly easy, mission). The rest of the controls are as simple using almost all the buttons including the L1+2 and R1+2 buttons with out a hard combinations in sight. The sound is incredible, the blaster bolts and bomb explosions make you feel more like you are in the star wars universe. This is of course backed up by John Williams sound track superbly used and hardly ever repeative. The graphics are good to look at. The debris for example, when you shoot up a droid fighter, you can fly through the bits if your fast enough. The PS2 can maintain tons of explosions on the screen at any one time and I only ever seen in freeze for a milisecond once. I have seen 50+ star fighters on screen all independantly moving (for example the "New ristance" level) this is amazing.
The only problem with this game is there are only 14 levels backed up by several bonus missions but this hardly dents the game. The medal system still works like before and will make you play it much more. 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Episode 1: Greatfighter!!!, 12 July 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Wars Episode 1: Starfighter (PS2) (Video Game)
When I first heard of this game I didn't for 1 minute believe that it would be any good. Why? Because Star Wars games are (bar this) awful. But I am happy to report that I was wrong. The craft handle just right, the graphics are beautiful and it is great fun to play. Fans of Star Wars will no doubt recognise the sounds, and the radio chat gets you ready and rearing to go and take on the next challenge. The only downside to this otherwise hardly flawed dame is the longevity. It does not take long to complete, and it will not last anyone for too long but great fun anyway!

I remember a Star War's game I enjoyed year's ago I remember there was a lot of flying ship's to master but wether it was this one Im not sure yet,Iv'e only reached the end of the first level I have owned a gamecube ,and it could well have been on that one But this is a good game so far it tell's you what button's you pressin order to destroy the training target's so there is no reason to keep glancing at the instruction booklet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Short but Sweet, 12 July 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Wars Episode 1: Starfighter (PS2) (Video Game)
Well, another console Star Wars another flop. Well, not quite. In fact it is one of the more playable games on PS2. You play one of three characters (they arent in any of the films so i need not tell you their names) and your role is to chase, blast, escort and escape your way through 15 levels of this space shooter. The story line runs parralell with the events of Episode 1. Having said that you would have thought that you would have come across a few of the characters in the film. Sadly not, and frankly with the artistic license that the developers have with Star Wars you would have expected to see someone. Alas not a Jar Jar Binks in sight. The graphics are in the main smooth and clear. Alot of time has gone into light sourcing and making sure that the explosions look right, which they do. The playability is great. The storyline is imersive which helps, however it is the level of control that you have over the ships which makes flying them so enjoyable. Each handles slightly differently with different weaponry, but they all suit the levels for which they are used. The only point that lets the game down is it's lastability. For a game of easy to meduim difficulty 15 levels is simply not enough and the whole experience is over just as you are getting into it. There is almost a sense of dissapointment when you complete the game when you think, "there must be more." If there were then a definite 4 star game this would be. Sad really.
