5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Selection, 21 Sep 2002
This review is from: The Rough Guide to Bhangra (Audio CD)
If you're a bit of a Bhangra novice like me, this excellent value compilation is definetely for you. Filled with a great selection of thumping beats and gorgeous, moving vocals. If the super tunes aren't enough there also a CD-ROM track packed full useful info. A must buy - enjoy :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ever Bhangra Tacks in the World, 17 Feb 2005
This review is from: The Rough Guide to Bhangra (Audio CD)
This cd has some of the big names of bhangra, Bally Sagoo, A.S. Kang, Malkit Singh, Sangeeta and many more. One of my favorite tracks is by Mohinder Kaur Bhamra

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent selection - a good starter kit to find which artists you really like, 6 Mar 2008

This is a decent enough selection. Virtually impossible not to bop to.

Some of it is a bit repetitive - but then there are also things inherant to the style of Bhangra itself.

There is one rap style song which made me laugh for all the wrong reasons and rapidly whizz to the next track - but other than that - it's perfectly enjoyable.

This is a good cd, but I don't know much about bhangra and I didn't play it very often after listening to it a first two times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who cares if it's big in Amrika?, 6 Feb 2005

This review is from: The Rough Guide to Bhangra (Audio CD)
Well, for anyone who's not concerned about what kind of music might be popular in USA (see comment typical of Americans above), well this CD is certainly not the best for value. However, it does contain important Bhangra tracks from the last years, including two fantastic songs: Boliyan and Chargiye.
However, both of these tracks can be found on other Bhangra compilations which are cheaper. So, 4/5 for the music, but only worth buying if you're a collector, or a naive American.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Roundup Of A Distinctive Sound, 30 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Rough Guide to Bhangra (Audio CD)
Face it, a lot of "British" music doesn't travel well. It's not because of a lack of quality. Compare the limp 60s garage psychedelia of Rhino Records' "Nuggets 1" compilation (all US bands) with the blazing fervor of "Nuggets 2" for a good example. Bands like Travis and Oasis are not important in the US, and may never be. Stone Roses, The Smiths, the list goes on and on...so you won't be offended if I say I'd never heard a bhangra record in my life, until I bought this out of curiosity in a local store one rainy afternoon?
It's a great mixed bag of unlikely sounds. Not as clever as Asian Underground, but a great car CD, mixing Punjabi music with reggae, techno and western ideas. I'll probably look out for more by some of these folks, given the chance.
