5.0 out of 5 stars Watch out John Digweed - Howells has arrived!!!, 22 Dec. 2000
This review is from: Global Underground: Nubreed 002 (Audio CD)
Following on the back of his two "Nocturnal Frequencies" releases, Danny Howells surpasses himself with arguably one of the best releases to come from the Global Underground stable.
Make no mistake, this is music for mature tastes. No hint of cheese whatsoever.
CD1 is a superlative blend of funky cuts mixed to absolute perfection. Jaw-droppingly good. I was stunned by it (and I'm no easy audience, believe me!). If your collection is lacking something funky, adult and sophisticated, buy this album for this cd alone!
Hang on though, what about CD2? Well thankfully, the Howells Quality Control Machine remains switched on to deliver a progressive mix that dips it's toes in a number of sub-genres. Once again, the mixing is masterful - it may be Pro Tools at work but you can't fake talent! - and by the time Mindstream closes the cd off you are left choking for more. Pure class. Play this cd in your car and the miles will just fly by.
In conclusion, fans of Sasha and Digweed should lap this up. I've heard that some folk have had trouble with cd1 but give it a chance. This release has been one of the musical highlights of 2000 for me. Get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic!, 4 Oct. 2000

...I bought this CD on something of a whim, had heard good things about Danny Howells and the fact he is from the Sasha/7pm stable appealed.
To state that this double CD package is superb is an understatement in the extreme; the track selection on both CDs is perfect, with the mixing obviously flawless and both CDs are very different in nature and tempo.
However, where Howells excels goes above and beyond this; the great DJ sets are holistic; the net effect is greater than the sum of the parts and the mixing brings out the best in the tracks selected and creates a journey through genres, tempos and peaks/troughs.
The track selection is exceptional; the genius of 16B features twice, with the Echomen's tracks being excellent as well, with the emphasis on souful house rather than 'banging' music. The 2nd CD is more strident in its beats, with the final track being a modern classic to end the set: the Orbital remix of MBM's Mindstream.
In all, quite brilliant. You won't see it advertised on the TV with 'Now that's what I call Ibiza Massive, Volume 245' but this should be the CD you spend your money on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still excellent, 13 April 2007
This review is from: Global Underground: Nubreed 002 (Audio CD)
The sign of a great mix album is it's longevity - this is still as breathtaking as the first time I heard it. Whilst the cheese compilations of this world (Essential Selection etc etc - you know who you are!!) disappear into obscurity and sound old and tired, this still sounds freah and new!! The mixing is sublime, the tracks melding together to produce a full soundscape that makes you feel bereft when it's ended. I like both CD's, and yes, they're not the most bangin' in the world, but crank 'em up, and you'll soon be groovin', turn 'em low and you've got a ethereal chilled out dancy sesh!! If you know what I mean.

Am amazed this hasn't had a review since 2001, but then I guess it's old news now, but really, if you want a great mix album, like Sasha and Digweed (I think Howells falls somewhere between the two, kind of....) then check this out. Much better than his Miami mix and more accesable that 24:7 (which incidentally is almost equally as brilliant as this) then you could do a lot worse than buy this, even at £15.99 it's a steal

Enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One Listen And Your Hooked!!!!, 24 Nov. 2007

After years of clubbing and into Hard House, Trance and Progressive i have decided to start collecting a lot of older mix albumns to relive some memories of old and upto now this Nubreed mix by Danny Howells has been the best by far and thats a bold statement from someone who has almost the entire collection og Global Underground mixes!
Both CD's still sound very fresh and the flow with the upmost of ease, i was 4 tracks into cd1 before i knew it!!

CD 1 - Slower paced but its very addictive listening very well thought out and put together.

CD 2 - More upbeat and like what you would have in a club but again put together better than Howells GU Miami mix.

My simple advice is if you have not got this the buy it before it is gone forever!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blinding beats, 18 Jan. 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Global Underground: Nubreed 002 (Audio CD)
As St Paul might have said on the way to Damascus; blinding! Nothing I've bought has got me this enthusiastic in a long time. Chilled it may be, but it got me on my feet and dancing around the living room on a Thursday afternoon. It got inside me and I got inside both sides, if you know what I mean! Yes, it's Sashaesque and there's nothing wrong with that, but this bloke is something to write home about. First's for groovin', second's for movin'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Danny Howells Kicks It with NuBreed2, 5 Sept. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Global Underground: Nubreed 002 (Audio CD)
I Bought this Cd on a bit of a whim - I havnt heard much about Danny Howells other than the fact that he did a various CD for Jackpot records a few years ago.
DISK 1 The first CD in completely chilled to the point of being almost nodescript. This is not a bad thing, it is back ground music that will always get you feet tapping no matter where you are. The tunes played are solid and are mixed immaculately. All in all this is a fine intro...which brings me along to.......
DISK2 My God this is excellent. The hypnotic music on this CD brings you in, spins you around before spiting you out. This mix - which I think was recorded live - is more like a journey than so many of the souless mixes that there are about today. If any of you have seen the video "baraka" you will no what i mean. All in all - this is perfect post club music - it aint gonna get you dancin like a mad man...but it will certainly have you nodding your head.
