4.0 out of 5 stars THE AIR IN THERE(NOT ANOTHER FRENCH ACT)
Put simply, 'another mellow summer' is the type of album that you can listen to going to sleep, or getting ready to go out to a club(of any sort). Sounding like a brother album of 'moon safari' the much loved chill-out album from fellow frenchmen air, 'another mellow summer' is an altogether more upbeat affair.Yes you do get vocoded voices, moog sounds aplenty and...

3.0 out of 5 stars just okay
It's okay, it's just that it sounds so derivative it feels stale. Not a patch on Air's debut; in fact, it makes you appreciate how wondrous "Moon Safari" - or even "Premiers Symptomes" - really was.

Put simply, 'another mellow summer' is the type of album that you can listen to going to sleep, or getting ready to go out to a club(of any sort). Sounding like a brother album of 'moon safari' the much loved chill-out album from fellow frenchmen air, 'another mellow summer' is an altogether more upbeat affair.Yes you do get vocoded voices, moog sounds aplenty and hi-fi bleeps but the production level is not overdone and the album is the perfect length for this type of thing(about 45 minutes)
There is also a strong beatles (psychadelic era)feel to the record. Some will find this offensive to the fab four yet most(as yours truly did) will find it refreshing. It is the type of album that you could find intially infuriating, but later learn to appreciate its merits. 'Paris sous la neige', the 2nd track, is the prime example here. At first the outrageous cheese of the song makes you screw your face up but after a few more listens your smiling and after more time you're running around your flat singing along. And for that to happen to me after not affecting my body with alcahol etc means that a song is truly special. The other tracks are not as upbeat but they have the same ability to change your mood, which is surely a special thing.
So thats the type of album this is. It is a regurgitation of the past yet is in its own way progressive. Not everyone will like it and it will not do very well commercially unless ad agencies and/or dance remixes promote the record.
Like a good bottle of wine, give this album time. One question does need to be asked--how long will this 'french revolution/invasion' in the uk last for?
this album is influenced by and related to in some way the following artists: bent'programmed to love': pheonix(single 'too young': album 'united'):air(album 'moon safari'):beatles(album'sgt peppers lonely hearts club band')
