This budget-priced album contains most of his most famous songs, many of which have retained their popularity via cover versions. Pop, rock, country, folk and jazz singers have all recorded their own versions of Buddy's songs, so even if you've never heard Buddy's versions, you may be familiar with the songs.
Here, you get Buddy's original versions of Oh boy (a UK number one hit for Mud in the seventies), That'll be the day, Peggy Sue, Listen to me, Rave on, Heartbeat (a UK top ten hit for Showaddywaddy in the seventies), True love ways, Everyday and It doesn't matter anymore.
Despite his early death in a plane crash, Buddy continued to have hits for a few years. Incredibly, he had three UK top ten hits in 1963 (Brown eyed handsome man, Bo Diddley, Wishing)
There are at least two obvious omissions, though neither was a UK hit for Buddy - remarkable, considering how famous they are. Not fade away (the original B-side of Oh boy) later became a top three UK for the Rolling Stones. Raining in my heart (the original B-side of It doesn't matter anymore) became a minor UK hit for Leo Sayer. Disappointing as those omissions are, if you want a collection containing all of Buddy's important songs, you must pay a higher price.
This makes a great introduction to Buddy's music at a bargain price.

Over 54 years have past now since....on tour 'Buddy Holly' with 'The Crickets' 'Ritchie Valens'
and 'The Big Bopper' were travelling between venues on a coach that had problems with it's
heating system, the weather bitter, it was a harsh winter, the journey tiring, 'Buddy' decides to
hire a light aircraft which would carry just three passengers along of course with the pilot.
In a driving blizzard the plain takes off, minutes into the flight they were gone....
'Buddy' (22) 'Richie' (17) 'The Big Bopper' (28) and the planes pilot.....'Febuary 3rd 1959.....
Forever Young.
Buddy at his young age had recorded much material, a talented musician, song writer, and
unique vocalist.
His unique style would almost certainly have stood the test of time....he was that good.
He'd already had chart success both sides of the Atlantic, shortly after his death his song
'IT DOESN'T MATTER ANY MORE' topped the chart, some of the material he'd recorded
was released during the early 60's achieving Top Ten placing's, those songs being 'Wishing'
'A Brown Eyed Handsome Man' and 'Bo Diddley'
This album, though as is often the case you probably need at least three to get all his material,
has most of his well known material on-board (other than the songs already mentioned) include
--'Heartbeat'.....'Peggy Sue'......'Rave On'......'Oh Boy'......'That'll Be The Day'......and.....'Maybe
Baby' ....among it's play-list and those earlier listed of course.
'Buddy Holly' was a rare talent who's music has stood the test of time.

I am 19 and purchased this album on the strength of a TV programme about Buddy Holly. As far as value for money goes, this is superb. All his hits are here and it really makes you appreciate how much Buddy Holly did for music in such a tragically short period.

looking for an overview of Buddy Holly's work? They don't come much better than this. We can all wish this one was in there or that, but someone somewhere had to make a decision on what went in and what didn't. The result is a good all round representation of the skill, the talent, the sheer joy that was Buddy Holly's music. It is hard to believe all this happened in just 18 months. If anyone ever left a legacy, he did.

Another trip down memory lane that had me dancing round the kitchen. Good reminder of nights gone by at the local youth club

I recently went to see the Buddy Holly Show at my nearby theatre and although I am ten years younger than Buddy would
have been I never came across his music when I was growing up. It was all Beatles, Rolling Stones etc. After the show
I was hooked and looked on Amazon to find a cd. I now play his music around the house and love it.

I have bought this cd not only for myself, as i was brought up with his music as my mother played him all the time when i was a kid, but i work in a residential home for the elderly; and i noticed if ever any of Buddy Holly's music came on the radio at work, the residents would be tapping their feet and singing along to it. so i thought, i will buy a Buddy Holly cd for them. and they loved it. unfortunately somebody else loved it more, and it has mysteriously disappeared-i know who you are-! anyway, i have found it again on Amazon for a very low price, and will be playing it again for my Buddy Holly fans-my elderly clients-at work soon. his music really brightens their day, and takes them back. gone are the days of Vera Lynn and Darby and Joan, our society of clients in care, are now the teddy boys and girls of the 50's. soon they will be Beatles and Stones fans.........hang on that's me!..not long now then, i just hope one of my carers thinks to bring in The White Album, or Sticky Fingers!

edit: the outcome:
I have since been playing this on a dementia unit where i work since it arrived, and my clients love it. we have a nun on the unit too who is a client, and i caught her dancing to 'That'll be the Day' with her zimmer frame! along with all the others, some were dancing, some were singing along, and some were tapping their feet. music transcends all different backgrounds, no matter what your upbringing. Buddy Holly is sadly missed, and loved by so many. but his legacy has brought happiness to so many different cultures, religions, and ages. no more sitting in front of a full volume tv watching Jeremy Kyle for my clients, they are, as i write this, bopping to Buddy Holly.
