Great addictive fun. All the elements of Warcraft, but with improved graphics and gameplay and set in space. The three races (Terran, Zerg and Protoss) are different and interesting enough to keep you playing through all the missions in the original game and the Brood War expansion pack. One of the best games of it's genre.
Over the last 10 years that I first installed STARCRAFT I have replayed it countless of times. Every time a new overhyped game disappoints me, this is one of the games I pull out of my library to be reminded what a GREAT PC GAME LOOKS & PLAYS LIKE! (others include UNREAL, BALDUR's GATE, GRIM FANTANGO and SHOGUN:TOTAL WAR)
Everyone has his/her favorite RTS and no one can claim that STARCRAFT introduced the futuristic RTS genre (that would be DUNE). Nevertheless, the great, crisp and clear graphics, the balanced units and the strategic terrain all contributed to turning STARCRAFT into a true classic. This is a game that passed the test of time, not only because its aging graphics are still acceptable but also because it is one of those games that stays with you. Forever.
So, the next time some gaming industry MBA (who probably could not tell an RTS from an cRPG) tables the idea of LIMITED INSTALLATIONS, what he will have primarily accomplished is to have his game forgotten within a year.

One of the best RTS games around. Three races, all completely different and alien, fight for survival. There is a superb story flowing through all the scenarios with some great cinematics. There are a couple veteran level bonus campaigns that can be downloaded from the web after you finish the basic game and the expansion. The story hints that there is more to come - if so, I wish Blizzard would hurry up!

This is one of the most addicting games to have ever existed on the planet Earth. Even 8 years after it's release people are still consistently playing this game. There are even professional gamers who play this game and earn 20 000£ in big tournaments.
So let's ask ourselves
why is starcraft still so popular after all o these years?
Well there are so many reasons I'm not sure if I'll be able to fir all of them inside this review but it's always worth a try.
Well firstly, it is simply put, a great game made by a great game creator who actually cares for a game after it has sold enough copies. Blizzard, I have to say are my favourite creators because even though at the start of the game it may not be the perfect game, they keep on adding patches to make it perfect
This leads us on to patches. AH Blizzard, the patches you make were unbelievable. Because of the patches the game is now still as fun to play as ever. All three of the races are perfectly balanced. New maps are constantly being produced.
Now onto the balance of the races. Never and I mean NEVER has a game been so well balanced. The three races all have different play styles and different strengths and weakenesses. The protoss are the power race. They are expensive yet powerful. The Zerg are the "swarm" just literally outbuild the enemy with cheap prices and overrun the other army with sheer numbers. The terran are the "balance" they are the balance between power and cost, their units are neither expensive nor cheap, neither weak nor extremely powerful.
Blizzard knew exactly how to balance this game and they continuously listenned to the public players to improve the game and that is why so many people love blizzard.
We love blizzard. And we all love multiplayer on Battle.net. If you have internet then you can forever play against. The play on internet is just so addictive. Once you start you are hooked. You see time quickly pass by as you play game after game just to try to improve. If you improve enough then if you are lucky you'll become a professional gamer which is what many people aspire to do.
So people what are you waiting for? Go get this game and have fun playing a game which is actually good
