4.0 out of 5 stars A Gothic Tale full of swirling imagery and stirring emotions, 28 Mar. 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Autumn Tears-Four Seasons of L (Audio CD)
As the story unfurls around you, the stirring sounds of tradegy and death create images of Gothic proportions. The "actors" sing out their role charged with emotion. Almost operatic in its delivery the principal character seeks to enter the garden of sanctuary despite her past sins of luring children to their deaths - not a happy story I can tell you, but there are beautifully sung moments with lyrical words.
It would not be out of place in a sung in a gothic setting such as a church with candles all around (which incidentally is where I first heard it). The musical accompaniment is limited to a few instruments, creating an almost sparse atmosphere and where appropriate an awesome feeling of loss and betrayal.
In all, a stirring saga worthy of Byron, though a longer version would do more justice (like any opera's). Beautifully sung, but not very commercial.
