5.0 out of 5 stars Urgent and exciting, 31 Oct 2001

It was with joy I saw that the 1982 album I have been playing on a nearly expired cassette is now available on CD.
I know very little about Irish music; but this album demonstrated to me that it is the music, not the instruments or amplification that make what you hear exciting.
There is an urgency in the music that reminds me of the best jazz along with a Bach-like precision.
Listening to the acoustic instruments' unaccustomed sound can take me to a windswept Irish coast, even as I sit in a London traffic jam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arguably the best Irish music CD ever, 16 Oct 2003

Take two stunning musicians at the height of their powers, let them play a heap of the best tunes ever and this is what you get. Hell-for-leather playing, utterly precise, gives the cleanest example I know of how exciting Irish traditional music can be. It also my favourity version of Paddy Keenan playing the Bucks of Oranmore, which is heart stopping.
Pure music - great for learning tunes from, or convincing doubters how good the music can be.
