5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful collection, 19 Jan 2004

Rohun (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mozart: Violin Sonatas (DG Collectors Edition) (Audio CD)
This is a truly sumptuous collection of Mozart's Violin Sonatas. Izthak Perlman's control and style on the violin is wonderful with an assured accompaniment by pianist, Daniel Barenboim.
This kind of box set collection would appeal to anyone who is interested hearing Mozart's music beyond the ubiquituous Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and such like. It is indeed very typical of the period and for me was particularly of interest as I am a violinist and am currently playing the Allegro from the E Minor Sonata K304 (300cc). So, this recording helped me gain the finest insight into how to project a performance worthy of the piece which is both dark and moving but yet a joy to play.
However, the K304 is not the only fascinating sonata here, all of the tracks on this 4-disc collection are truly divine both technically and stylistically. To top that, this smart collector's box sets comes with an excellent critique of the work written by Stanley Stadie.
Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Muscular Mozart, 20 Feb 2011
This review is from: Mozart: Violin Sonatas (DG Collectors Edition) (Audio CD)
These classic recordings of Mozart's mature sonatas for violin and piano date from the early and mid nineteen-eighties and display muscular playing from this renowned pair of musicians - Itzhak Perlman and Daniel Barenboim. There needs to be clear evidence of rhythmic sinews in this kind of chamber music, despite the relaxed domestic situation for which many of the pieces were composed and the elegance of the style: Perlman and Barenboim provide this quality fully. However, there is also a touching delicacy when required in the many delicious dialogues afforded throughout these sonatas. As in this duo's fine recordings of the Brahms sonatas, the rich fruits of Western musical learning are on display here in performances of character, colour and commitment. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mozart Violin Sonatas, 11 Aug 2010
This review is from: Mozart: Violin Sonatas (DG Collectors Edition) (Audio CD)
I purshased Mozart's Violin Sonatas in order to listen to music I had taped at random in the 1960s, and not heard in years. I did not receive the first despatch, and Dodax without any quibble sent a replacement at their own cost.
The Itzhak Perlman and Daniel Barenboim recordings of the violin sonatas are so clear and good qulity - I'm sure Inspector Morse would have had it in his collection! The product was well worth the price, I would recommend this cd and the excellent service provided by Dodex, looking after the interests of their custmers.
