4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy Sequel to the Fugitive
Sequel to an outstanding movie The Fugitive (1993). In this film, the focus is on the team that was searching for Dr. Richard Kimble in the first movie. That team was led by Tommy Lee Jones, who won an Oscar for his performance, which probably helped spur this sequel. It worked, as Jones and company (Joe Pantoliano and others) are just as much fun to watch as they were in...

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy Sequel to the Fugitive, 1 May 2007
This review is from: U.S. Marshals [1998] [DVD] (DVD)
Sequel to an outstanding movie The Fugitive (1993). In this film, the focus is on the team that was searching for Dr. Richard Kimble in the first movie. That team was led by Tommy Lee Jones, who won an Oscar for his performance, which probably helped spur this sequel. It worked, as Jones and company (Joe Pantoliano and others) are just as much fun to watch as they were in The Fugitive.

There are many similarities to the latter, especially in the first third of the film, featuring some tremendous action scenes. Instead of a train crash, we have a plane crash. Instead of Harrison Ford on the run, we have Wesley Snipes. In both films, you have such an involving story that the two hours fly by.

The Fugitive is still one of my all-time favorite movies. If you were entertained by it as well but are wary of sequels, you needn't be here: this is very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars GRIPPING!!!, 21 Nov 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: U.S. Marshals [1998] [DVD] (DVD)
A very good action film with a predictable script but an unpredictable ending. This was one of the best action films of 1998 mainly because it had Wesley Snipes in it. Mark Sheridan (Wesley Snipes) is on the run after a routine pick up went wrong. He ended up killing two federal agents in self defence. It is upto Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones) to catch him. From crash landings in planes, to jumping off buildings, this film is has non stop action in it.
Tommy Lee Jones easily steals the show, but lets not take anything away from Wesley Snipes though, he is as reliable as ever being the action hero.
Tommy Lee Jones plays the no nonsense U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard and once again will stop at nothing to catch his fugitive. Little does he know that his fugitive is trained for this type of situation which makes him extremely hard to catch. But no one is that hard to catch for the great Sam Gerard, until now.
Great acting, suspense and action all in one. Overall, if you like either of these two actors you will love this film, if you enjoy action films you will love this film, just watch it and you will understand what I mean.
Enjoy!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars 'WE HAVE A FUGITIVE', 25 Jan 2014

Another one of those movies well worth revisiting.
The film kicks off with a car chase, involving 'Mark Roberts' who will
become the fugitive.
'Marshal Sam Gerard' is assigned along with fellow deputy's to escort a
number of prisoners on a flight to another location.
During the flight an incident on board leads to catastrophic engine
failure, the plane is forced to attempt an emergency landing, after
which during desperate moments when the plane finishes up in a river,
one of the prisoners escapes....'Mark Roberts' (Wesley Snipes)
This triggers a search led by 'Marshal Sam Gerard' (Tommy Lee Jones)
Federal agents have been trying to track down former agent 'Mark Roberts'
real name 'Mark Sheridan' he'd killed two agents, he'd claimed this to
be self-defence.
The agency insist that 'Agent John Royce' (Robert Downey jnr) joins the
marshal in the search.
The hunt begins......it becomes a game of cat-and-mouse as the search
becomes more intense.
Will 'Mark Sheridan' have time to clear his name before capture ?
A enjoyable and dramatic watch, the film has several action sequences, along
with some convincing visual effects.
Plenty of tension coupled with a pretty good transfer HD upgrade on this 1998
movie, good picture and sound quality throughout.
WELL WORTH REVISITING. (U.S. IMPORT....it is MULTI-REGION)
Features include:- 'Anatomy of the plane crash' 'Justice under the star'
'Commentary by director - 'Stuart Baired' and 'Theatrical Trailer'

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining but not especially memorable sequel, 12 Dec 2007

This review is from: U.S. Marshals [1998] [DVD] (DVD)
Structurally, U.S. Marshals, is a reworking of the The Fugitive, fulfilling the classic sequel brief of "the same but different": the producers substitute an incredibly impressive plane crash for the incredibly impressive train crash, a fall from a tall building for a fall from a dam and government defense secrets for drugs trials while throwing in the same plot device of an ally who turns out to be an enemy. The main difference here is no Harrison Ford, more Tommy Lee Jones and added Wesley Snipes (presumably on the run from the taxman) and Robert Downey Jr. (who really should have kept the sunglasses on until he finished rehab). There are no surprises, it's somewhat overlong and you won't remember it a day later, but it's energetically directed by Stuart Baird and superbly edited by Terry Rawlings and does its job effectively enough while you're watching it.

Sadly, UK buyers get short measures again - the Stuart Baird audio commentary and an additional featurette from the Region 1 NTSC DVD have not been included on this release, which simply includes the featurette on the spectacular plane crash.

This is Tommy Lee Jones at his best. I don't think of it as a sequel at all. It's just a great action adventure film. The pace is good, the characters are are interesting, and it's a well constructed story. I go back to it every now and then. My wife like it because it's not too nasty, but still an action movie. Great fun!

This is obviously a cash in on Tommy Lee Jones scene stealing performance in The Fugitive. It's the same again but the story line let's it down a bit. But hey it does have Wesley Snipes in it so it can't be bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic film, 18 Nov 2013

This review is from: U.S. Marshals [1998] [DVD] (DVD)
This is Jones at his best and most comfortable. A follow on from his character in the Fugitive with Harrison Ford, Jones again plays the US Marshall leading his odd but talented team. Wesley Snipes is also in the film but don't let that pu you off. It is one of his better performances. Good film, great action and good story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only just ok......, 11 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: U.S. Marshals [1998] [DVD] (DVD)
I wanted this film to be great & certainly Tommy Lee Jones put in a lot of effort. In fact most of the actors did but the story didn't come together somehow.... it wasn't gripping, as a thriller should be, and at no point did I feel any tension even though the 'baddie' was being chased the whole time. Some parts of the chase were unbelievable and just silly. I'd say it's OKAY for a wet afternoon if you have nothing else to do and you paid less than a 1 for it. Having watched it once and been unmoved, I won't be watching it again. In fact maybe I'll drop it off at my local charity shop for someone else to be bored.
