5.0 out of 5 stars catchy, hand-clappy, sing-a-long greatness, 4 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Boxing Hefner (Audio CD)
Hefner have got to be one of my all-time favourite bands. Darren Hayman's beautiful voice is one of the most outstanding features of this album. He is one of the few people who can get away with not really being able to sing, because he does it with such class and style. Listen to this album if it's just for the humour and handclap-ability of 'Hello Kitten' or the sheer brilliance of 'Christian Girls' or 'The Science Fiction'. Also, if you like this album then you are sure to love 'Breaking God's Heart', 'The Fidelity Wars' and 'We Love the City' - although in my opinion that one is more of a grower. Hefner are pretty unique as a band and i think any comparisons would be unfair, although if you can appreciate the quirkiness of Darren Hayman's writing and the band's general style then you'll probably love Pavement and The Flaming Lips too. If you want stark honesty and beautifully sincere love songs then buy this album. and love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth having., 21 Jan 2011
This review is from: Boxing Hefner (Audio CD)
For all that this isn't a 'proper' album it is still worth having. There are a few tracks which do seem like filler but several which amongst this great band's best 'Christian Girls' and 'Hello Kitten' being the obvious examples.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good album, only let down by one track, 18 Oct 2000
This review is from: Boxing Hefner (Audio CD)
Science Fiction! If you only buy this album for this one track you wont go wrong... but the rest is also superb, close seconds are Lee Remick and Blind Girl with Halo, I love all of this album, with perhaps the exception of "Pull yourself together" which grates a bit for me.
