I totally enjoyed this film, although there was no martial arts involved there was still plenty of action right from the start, plenty of fire fights to keep you glued to the movie.this is chow yun fat at his best,he plays a tough cop who plays both sides to keep the streets under control, but as the film unfolds we see he also has a heart, which leaves mark wahlberg's character with a bit of a dilemma.this movie has the action and the emotional balance of the characters just as it should be.with a few twists along the way you wonder who is on which side,so if you like a film with plenty of action this one is definately worth watching.

Mark Walhberg plays Danny Wallace the newly assigned, and only non-Chinese cop in New York's Chinatown district. Greeted with dislike and distrust, Wallace has to slowly win over the respect of his team members before finally being acknowledged as a "partner" by his boss, Detective Nick Chen. This finally happens after he saves his life at the end of an epic and bloody car chase.

Caught in a feud between warring Triad gangs, Wallace finds himself unwittingly indebted to one of the charming, but manipulative gang captains, himself with designs on the gang leader's job. He soon discovers he is not the only one on the payroll but the FBI are closing in on all of them and their actions become increasingly desperate.

A good film, violent but with a twisting plot and good chemistry between the main characters, it slowly builds up to the bloody finale where all is not what it seems.

After the above average Replacement Killers, Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-Fat teamed up with director James Foley and actor Mark Wahlberg to star in what appears to be his best film in the West.
Detective Nick Chen (Chow) is well recognised by the people of New York for keeping the peace in the city's turbulent Chinatown district, which is run by hotheaded triad groups. Rookie cop Daniel Wallace (Wahlberg) is assigned by superiors to work with Chen's unit. Reluctantly Chen builds a bond with Wallace as they both carry out their duty as policemen while trying to prevent a blood-n-bullets war between two of the cities major Triads. Sooner or later, the pair begin to doubt each other as their loyalty is questioned.
Compared to 'The Replacement Killers', this film has much more intense drama and performances by the cast (except for Wahlberg - whose characters always turn out the same) especially Chow Yun-Fat, as he gets more dialogue in this movie than RKs and proves that not all of his American roles were awful (whoever said that maybe never saw this). He brings to the screen a great load of charisma as soon as his opening shot, you might even get the tune he was humming into your head for a few days after watching this movie. The camera work is quite slick as the editing adds an edgy, streetwise feel to the atmosphere. The action for the movie was very stylish and intense as it is displayed in a very gritty way. The handheld shots used for the car chase are a perfect example. The theme tune for the film gives it a very complex mixture of Eastern and Western culture and dark suspense. The soundtrack used throughout the film gives it a very urbanised feel and backdrop for the story.
All I can say is - great movie, great action, and a worthy performance from Chow Yun-Fat
