A completely new look at the careless wit so mis-used on the modern t-shirt. This peek into the World of a man more bemused and misused than cynical and perverted is well worth the time and money spent, (but be prepared for a few hours serious thinking to follow) excellent!

Just watched this again on BBC4 and have to comment.
Stephen Fry is excellent in all he does, but this acting role far surpasses anything else he has ever done in my opinion - in fact the whole cast is superb, particularly Jude Law as Lord Alfred Douglas.
I do not know why there has been no special recognition for this production!

The tragedy and intellect of Wilde is so brilliantly portrayed here along with the morally hidebound, bigoted nature of Victorian society and the tragic consequences resulting from same.

Having looked up the characters along with photographs, I also have to say that the casting is superb - in the main the actors actually look like the people they are portraying, which makes a very refreshing change.

All in all a great film and well worth anyone's time and money.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Enjoyed it very much. Stephen great as Oscar. Very well done in the time. When you know the whole story you realise the film is only a tiny part and there is much more tragedy to come. So for instance when Oscar went to see his wife's grave he was very upset as there would have been no mention of him til long after he died. Thought it great though and my granddaughter thought it was brilliant too. Thank you very much, the dvd was in excellent condition and even the pamphlet inside so thrilled and will treasure it.

I originally purchased this film on VHS and had a long wait for it to come to DVD.
I was thrilled with the improvement in both the sound and picture.
A worthy production artistically and a great tribute to the life and times of Oscar Wilde.

I enjoy watching films or reading books that relate to real life people or situations and this film did not disappoint. I love Stephen Fry so the fact that he starred as Wilde was an added incentive.

A brilliant DVD. Our reading group have just read the recent biography of constance wilde by Franny Moyle and it was really interesting to see this film which focussed on Oscar.

Wild about this fantastic movie! Stephen Fry at his true best as 'Oscar' opposite the
delectable Jude Law as 'Bosie'. Facinating story and beautiful to watch.

A sympathetic telling of a difficult period in the life of Wilde. The emotional scenes were sensitively done. Well worth watching.
