This peeler is for everyone, this has nothing to do with the extra wide comfortable grip of the handle, but it's the design of the peeler that is so clever.

The actual peeler glides along the vegetable in one smooth action, taking a wide slice of thin peel off the carrot or whatever, with it's sharp blade, not like the old style peelers that just take a thin short piece. You peel in a different direction. If you hold the peeler in your right hand, the blade is in the middle and the handle points outwards to the right, or the side of your body. The peeling is then a smooth movement from the middle to the outside, This makes the job much quicker, and easier, it seems to be a more natural movement.

In my opinion it is the best thing in the kitchen since sliced bread, go on treat yourself or friend to one!

OXO Good Grips Y Peeler

This is a fantastic peeler it is everything you read about and more, I have just used it for the first time to peel some potatoes and it took about half the time it would take using another peeler don't buy any other this is the best.

I was a bit sceptical when I bought this (maybe I'm just that kinda person!) but I really wanted to try something for peeling butternut squash, which I detested having to peel with a normal utensil.

Seriously seriously happy with the purchase! Makes it so much easier and now I will plan more meals with butternut squash and other similarly challenging veggies.

Absolutely worth every penny of the very reasonable price....and if like me you used to purchase pre-peeled butternut squash simply because you couldn't bear doing it yourself, then you will save money too.

Go for it.

I never thought that I would write a review about a peeler but this item is truly marvelous having a good wide handle and very sharp blades and also a feature for removing eyes.
Would highly recommend.

After continously buying the cheap metal peelers and finding that we were replacing them every 2mths, we finally bought this OXO good grips peeler. So far we are delighted. It takes a lot of the hassle out of peeling potatoes. Highly recommended.

The following review is written by a relative that suffers with osteoarthritis, has had multiple operations on both her hands and wrists, and as such has limited articulation of her thumbs and wrists.

The handle of the grip is just the right size for not only my hands but also my sons much larger hands with the rubberized finish giving a nice firm grip in the palm of the hand. The OXO Good Grips Y Peeler is also just as easily used with either left or right hands.

On one side of the top of the peeler handle is a protruding guide section that does an excellent job of preventing slips. Thanks to the design of the peeler it is almost impossible for your hand to get in the way during use and gives confidence in effortless easy peeling even given the difficulties I have in using my hands.

The peeler comes with a plastic cap to cover the blade which I am very thankful for as I store it within a cutlery drawer and it ensures that there are no accidents when rummaging within the compartment that it is stored. The cap is very easy to install and remove, sadly it is also just as easy to lose, I purchased this peeler to replace my 5 year old OXO Good Grips Y Peeler which sadly I lost the cover for rather early on, I will endeavour to look after the cover for the new peeler better. Should you wish to the peeler can also be hung on a utensil wall mount via the hole in the top of the handle.

The peeler is easily washed just rising under the tap, although a small cleaning brush would have been nice for cleaning inside the edges where the blade is joined to the handle edges as build-up can occur here at times.

The blade is nice and sharp and even on my 5 year old OXO Good Grips Y Peeler is just as sharp as my brand new replacement requiring minimal effort to peel with. I have had no problems what so ever of using this peeler with turnips, parsnips, swedes, potatoes, carrots, apples and cucumbers.

Similar peelers are available from "pound shops" however, do not be fooled as they are no where near the quality, comfort nor as durable, the price of the OXO Good Grips Y Peeler is a fair price for what you are getting.

ADDITIONAL INFO.
----------------------------
The top section of the handle with the blade attached is made from piano black plastic and the handle is coated with a nonslip rubberized silicone. The blade is 45.5mm wide and the handle measures 37.8mm x 17.9mm x 91mm.

The blade while stainless steel is magnetic and is made from ferritic stainless steel, which means it is magnetic due to chromium and carbon content and is not as strong as other types of stainless steel. According to the British Stainless Steel Association non stabilised grades of ferritic stainless steel have a lower resistance to corrosion and are a cheaper grade of stainless steel due to the lack of any nickel content.

I have no way of knowing if the ferritic stainless steel in the peeler is a stabilised grade without access to industrial equipment, which sadly I do not. I can say however that my 5 year old peeler started to rust after 4 years of use.

This is the best peeler I have ever used! Easy to handle with a cood comfy grip. I had one which I gave to my daughter-and tried another brand as a replacement. It fell far short of the Oxo one! So I am glad to have this again!
Would thoroughly recommend this. Very sharp.

Great little product. The big comfortable grip makes this so easy to use. It's almost a pleasure to peel potatoes!

Had lots of peelers like this but the OXO peeler slides down the veg so effortlessly, removing peel in seconds. But, the blades are extremely sharp so be careful when using and washing. I would definitely recommend this product, just watch you dont peel your fingers or youl peel sorry for yourself LOL.

Having taken our old peeler with us on holiday, family that we were staying with begged if we would leave it with them as now they had used this potatoe peeler they could not go back to another! In a gesture of good-will i left it with them. However, found myself not cooking anything with a potato insight as i simply could not face peeling them without my oxo good grip peeler. I am not sad, it is simply that these peelers really are better than any other i have EVER used. They are simple but effective and save so much time. I ordered a replacement as soon as i could, but sods law it took ages to arrive not the usual 2 days with amazon i was waiting a whole week.
I was a little disappointed that the more modern version of my old good grips peeler had a smaller handle and seem to be less substantial than its earlier counterpart. It is doing the job i need it for and with regards to the altered features the shorter handle has taken some getting used to.
