I'm giving this album four stars because two of his most beautiful songs have been omitted: Canvas Beauty and Time Has Got nothing To Do With It. Otherwise, most tracks are good and the following are great: Indigo Eyes, Final Solution, Deep Ocean and Huuvola. I would also have loved to enjoy his cover of Howard Devoto's The Light Pours Out Of Me amongst these superb songs. I'm surprised he's never had a top 5 hit with such strong material. People who like Nick Cave, John Cale, late 80s/early 90s Swans and late 70s David Bowie will love it.

This anthology gives you a concise history of the solo career of the guy that was the face of Bauhaus; that said, Peter Murphy's solo work illustrates a far more diverse artist who seems to be able to dip into numerous styles and come up with songs and arrangements (some a far cry from the Bauhaus sound) that move and astound. The only danger (as I found out) was that while it seems the logical choice to opt for the 'best of' at first when exploring an artist (although I've been a fan of Bauhaus for many years), in the case of this collection, it leaves you wanting more. No bad thing you might say, and I agree, the only problem being that you may have to buy the entire back catalogue (a fair few titles, especially given that his solo career runs continuously from '95 when this compilation ends right up to a release just recently)! This really is that diverse and genuinely good.

This is a super introduction to the genius that is Pete Murphy. A really nice collection of songs which really represent Pete's best early work.
