4.0 out of 5 stars Brings Friday night clubbing into your home
This CD is full of funky grooves, your foot will be tappin' all the way through. Definitely brings the UK club scene into your home, you don't need to be clubber to enjoy it, as it sounds just as good pumping through your car speakers. MOS do it again, with the help of brighest DJ's on the scene today. Also consider PURE Garage mixed by EZ, similar style but different...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pure Garage is better
I would recomend that you get Pure Garage instead as it has better songs and they are mixed better (in my opinion). If you like layed back garage you would prefer this.

This review is from: Rewind - the Sound of UK Garage/Mixed By the Artful Dodger (Audio CD)
This CD is one of the best garage mix CDs that I have heard, with lots of classics, such as MJ Cole "Sincere" and Paul Johnson "Get get down" and up front material, such as Artful Dodger "Movin too fast" Get it Now

UK Garage was really speed garage re-branded for the charts; the rough basslines were not bringing in the punters any more so they decided to rename it UK Garage, and Artful Dodger, a duo from Southampton were the ones making the most noise - so the MOS asked them to mix together the best of the genre so far. The most disappointing thing about the set was there was no future music; but this didn't matter as there's so many classics mixed together by the pair it really didn't matter.

CD1 is the better of the two, with it's more soulful 2 step sound, the seamless mixing is great, but at times they leave the track in a darker place, and you have to wait for the brighter bits with the vocals; but with classics like DJ Luck and MC Neat's With a Little Bit Of Luck you can't go wrong. I also love the B15 Project's Girls Like This, and James Brown with Bump n Flex; all great memories - and how can we forget Y Tribe's beautiful Enough Is Enough? The mix ends pretty rough, but the mixing is pretty good - and they even use the crossfader over four bars which is the usual trick of the DJ in a garage club.

CD2 is more housey than garage, and seems to be more US based, with MAW's To Be In Love, but classics like MJ Cole's Sincere are always very welcome here, Danny J Lewis' Spend the Night is always a good one too. Bit fed up of hearing Industry Standard though, even 10 years on, "what you want, what you need, why don't you tell me", that's how memorable it is! Again mixing is good, but very formulaic, and really lacking any special skills.

Altogether this isn't a bad set, and is a good start, probably not for garage purists, but it is getting a cult-status this CD, and worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Done, 1 April 2001

This review is from: Rewind - the Sound of UK Garage/Mixed By the Artful Dodger (Audio CD)
This is a great album. I just want to state something garage which is softer is called 2-step. Anyway this album has the greatest selection of tracks on it. To top it off it has The Artful dodger mix it. The Artful Dodger is not all that good when it comes to mixing tracks together but they get the job done. This album is even better than MOS's other Garage album UK Garage. That is also a great album. People who are into underground might enjoy that more than this. This is the best album for 2-step fans. The Artful Dodger cd It's All About the Stragglers is also amazing.
