I have loved Bach's Cello Suites ever since I heard a Casals recording in the 70s. I now own upwards of 20 different versions including Maisky's earlier recording of them. Not being a skilled musician it amazes me the difference in interpretation in every recording. It seems to me that cellists consider it their duty to record them at some stage of their career when in many cases they should leave well alone. Mischa Maisky is one cellist who can truly do them justice. He clearly loves the music and enjoys playing them. This comes across well on these CDs. I don't think I have heard a more beautiful sound on any other interpretation, From the quieter moments to the livelier pieces which really bounce along, I love this version.

For some reason, this download is missing the Prelude for Solo Cello Suite No. 1. This is the only track I really wanted as I will be walking down the aisle to it for my wedding. I will now have to source it elsewhere
