4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent companion to 'Parachutes'
OK, so this EP precedes 'Parachutes' but most people probably have the album before buying this. Of the five tracks here, two appear on the album. The version here of 'Don't Panic' is a nice alternative but far inferior to the album version, suffering from an eerier, over-produced sound. 'High Speed' is the same as on the album and arguably the weakest track here...

3.0 out of 5 stars Coldplay-Before they were famous
Initally released as a promo EP for the band, this cd gives some idea of how coldplay have evolved, albeit within the few months which have lanuched them into superstardom. No cheery tunes like yellow here, emotions still exist, but packed in spooky tunes, echoy guitar overdubs and true heartfelt singing. Could be comapred to early verve and radiohead in style and sound,...

OK, so this EP precedes 'Parachutes' but most people probably have the album before buying this. Of the five tracks here, two appear on the album. The version here of 'Don't Panic' is a nice alternative but far inferior to the album version, suffering from an eerier, over-produced sound. 'High Speed' is the same as on the album and arguably the weakest track here. However, this EP deserves at least 4 stars for the beautiful song that is 'See You Soon'. This track features just vocals, a beautifally simple acoustic guitar and an understated organ that supppliments the guitar halfway through. The other two tracks are typical Coldplay (that being very good in my opinion) and would have not been out of place on 'Parachutes'.

5.0 out of 5 stars A debut to be proud of!, 19 Dec. 2000
By
This review is from: The Blue Room EP (Audio CD)
This is awesome. They just don't do it by halfs. To produce an EP thisgood for a debut is amazing and shows just how much promise this up and coming band have. With tracks such as "Such A Ruch" and "High Speed" (which is also included on the album) how can they go wrong. For people new to the band this is and excellent way to get hooked and the album that follows is more of the same. This may not go down in history as their best works, but it should and nobody can afford to avoid it, escpecially at less than a full album. Coldplay will be one of the bands of the new millennium and this shows why. so go buy this recort or regret it forever, it could well be worth a few bob in years to come!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably Coldplay's BEST EP Yet, 7 April 2001
This review is from: The Blue Room EP (Audio CD)
This is a superb album/EP and their best music yet including Don't Panic and Bigger Stronger which should have been on the album Parachutes. This music is before Coldplay became famous and is so beautiful and atmospheric with a different version of Don't Panic. Truly Amazing!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Coldplay - After Parlophone called to sign them up!, 5 April 2011

OK, I'll be honest - this is an EP, but this is no ordinary EP, oh no! It's an EP for Parlophone, who are better known as EMI! So, basically, it's a major-label EP. One word that immediately springs to mind is "wow". Opening with the haunting and scary "Bigger, Stronger", after four minutes and forty-five seconds, it's sounding impressive already. What this EP also has is the first-ever recording of "Don't Panic" (which will be subsequently re-recorded for the "Parachutes" debut album). "See You Soon" has an acoustic-sounding feel to it, although closer listens to it make it half-electric half-acoustic, whereas "High Speed" is a really impressive track which will become one of the ten tracks on the "Parachutes" album. Like all EP's, there has to be a closing track, and for the "The Blue Room EP", "Such A Rush" is an appropriate closing number. When I originally bought this EP, it was an imported CD from Holland, a country where a lot of EMI CD's are manufactured nowadays. Like many people, I was unsure if Coldplay would become as popular as they are now, but that year was 1999. Who'd have thought that now in early 2011, the group have become such a success! So now it's up to you, dear music fan. Buy a CD rarity or treat yourself to an MP3 bargain! Whatever way you choose, you will love this EP - and maybe become another Coldplay fan! Either way, you'll be pleased with your purchase - just like I was in 1999!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful prequel to parachutes, 21 May 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Blue Room EP (Audio CD)
There's not much to say.. If i had one reason to recommend this ep it would be for See You Soon. It is definitely the highlight on the cd - a beautiful song and an early glimpse at the talent of this fab 4-piece. It is also good to know that High Speed first featured on this; one of the better songs on parachutes. Also, the version of Don't Panic here sounds less engineered than the album version, so its up to you which one you prefer. Most die hard fans probably already have this, but i would heartily recommend this to anyone who still can't get enough of chris martin & co...

5.0 out of 5 stars HEAR HOW CHRIS SOUNDED B4 HIS AFRO WAS CUT, 30 Dec. 2000

This review is from: The Blue Room EP (Audio CD)
THIS EP REALLY SUMS UP THE SOUND OF EARLY COLDPLAY AND ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT THEIR DEBUT RELEASE ( IT WAS THE 3RD THING THEY PUT OUT )IT REALLY DOES SUM UP HOW GOOD THEY WERE IN THOSE EARLY DAYS AND AT THOSE EARLY GIGS , SUPPORTING THE LIKES OF SHACK AND CAMPAG VELOCET ON AN NME TOUR A COUPLE OF MONTHES AFTER THIS RELEASE . THIS VERSION OF THE CD IS A RE-ISSUE THAT WAS MADE AFTER THE PARACHUTES ALBUM WENT TO NUMBER ONE , THIS IS A BIT OF A SICKENER TO THOSE OF US WHO FORKED OUT 30 QUID UPWARDS TO GET OUR HANDS ON THE REALLY COLLECTABLE CARDBOARD CASED ORIGINAL ONLY MONTHES PRIOR TO THE REISSUE BUT ALSO MEANS EVERYONE CAN ENJOY THE WHOLE PACKAGE OF THE BAND WE ALL LOVE , IF ANYONE DOES GET A CHANCE TO GET THEIR HANDS ON A COPY OF THE DEBUT RELEASE " SAFETY EP " THEN BE SURE TO LET ME KNOW!!
ALSO CHECK OUT THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS EP THAT WAS RELEASED BEFORE THIS EP AND IS ALSO AMONG THE EARLY STUFF NOW RE-ISSUED.
IN SHORT THIS EP HAS IT ALL..STAGGERING HIGHS - SEE "SUCH A RUSH" AND SWEETER LOWS , SEE "BIGGER STRONGER" . DOCUMENTING THE EARLY YEARS OF A BAND THAT ARE NOW AS ANYONE WHO HAS SEEN THEM LIVE WILL TESTIFY THE BEST BAND IN THE COUNTRY.
