5.0 out of 5 stars PLATINUM PLEASURE
Never mind golden, this album is platinum. The best album i have ever heard by a long shot. As a hardened roses fan i never imagined that brown could match and indeed better anything the roses created. This album brings together the originality of the roses and excels to another level with its unbelievel combination of psychodelic rock and dance. The combination of this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not great, but try it
An interesting album from a recent singer/songwriter. Some you will recognise and know fine and a few more interesting but unfortunately some a little bland, but if you are a fan buy this

As a hardened roses fan i never imagined that brown could match and indeed better anything the roses created. This album brings together the originality of the roses and excels to another level with its unbelievel combination of psychodelic rock and dance. The combination of this and browns voice is somehow beautiful. If Brown never creates another record he can be completely satisfied with what he has achieved. But please make more!

5.0 out of 5 stars The magic is there!, 15 Nov 1999
This review is from: Golden Greats (Audio CD)
A welcome departure from Unfinished Monkey Business's earthy studio recorded feel. Golden greats has a full 24 track production. There's a lot to listen 'in there' with some high points reached that remind you of the better 'roses' days - The track dolphins were monkeys is a perfect example, it starts off with a moody feel then kicks in with an up-tempo good time groove, with the lyrics sounding like the Ian Brown of 'One Love' era... he should definately do more tracks like this! Any Roses fans and Brown fans must buy this album! - it's the best thing an ex roses member has put out since the debut roses album

5.0 out of 5 stars KING MONKEY has done it again, 13 Dec 1999

This review is from: Golden Greats (Audio CD)
WOW! This album is his best. Nobody expected Ian to come back with an album of such class, such excitement but that is exactly what he HAS done. Getting High is arguably the best track, with exciting guiter inserts and a catchy tune, its a worthy album starter and sets you off on a journey, which with superb songs all the way through, you will take again and again. If you haven't got it, get it. KING MONKEY is the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quirky,catchy,space age,freaky rock music, 16 Feb 2001

The man is back and sounding better than ever, each track is completely different from each other with a multitude of different styles blending together on one album, who would have thought at this stage in his career Ian Brown would still be making progressive new music. The standout tracks on the album are:Getting High, Love Like a Fountain, Set My Baby Free and Dolphins were Monkeys(or as Ian says "Dolphins were Moonkees") Get out and Buy this now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishing, 10 July 2008
This review is from: Golden Greats (Audio CD)
I cannot put into words the love I have for this album. It is just so perfectly produced. The lyrical content is relatively simple, but well thought out, The music is enduring and so beautifully layered. I can listen to it over and over again and it never grows tiresome. Ian never follows the crowd - he sets his own agenda and does what he wants and this makes for some truly astonishing pop music. If only one british band/group/solo artist brought out an album that was as good as this every year I would be happy, but unfortunatly we have to put up with the endless stream of drivel that passes for 'classic' British albums.

Nearly all other British artists are lazy and boring apart from Ian Brown and Thom Yorke.

5.0 out of 5 stars IAN BROWN HAS ARRIVED, 5 Feb 2000
This review is from: Golden Greats (Audio CD)
As the title suggests, not only are these tracks golden to the ear, but they are definately great. In addition to the inevitable stone roses influence of his early days, Ian Brown has clearly shown us his own musical direction and intentions. An excellent piece of work that somehow manages to sound even better each time you listen to it despite hitting home hard the first time. You don't need to be a hardened roses fan to love this album. Listen and enjoy ! !

4.0 out of 5 stars One more step up the ladder to Ians potential, 17 Jan 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Golden Greats (Audio CD)
With such strong songs as First World and Dolphins were Monkeys, Ian has carried his spacey feel on from Monkey Business. While the only true review could come from Iam himself, letting the music speak for him this time should shut up his critics. Still not produced to the level of quality his work deserves, this album should find popularity with his fans. Not as main stream as some of his work on Monkey business, this album should be up for an award by the end of the year; but cos its Ian Brown, I`m sure the media would warm to him more if he took up dance routines like Steps. Lets hope he can gain the acclaim he deserves with this album, without having to pander to the 'popular' music press.....
