4.0 out of 5 stars aurora borealis in the jazz joint
Sliding over hesitant, jazzy arrangements, Stina Nordenstam's little-girl-lost voice conjures up a dreamscape of its own, full of the details of the everyday juxtaposed against a spacey weirdness. She whispers of lost opportunities of love in "She watches him from behind" and gently mocks her own melancholy with lines like "my sister needs a cigarette to take her through...

3.0 out of 5 stars pleasant-ish, but nothing stands out
This quiet and inoffensive album displays the developing sounds of this very distinctive child-like singer. It falls short of the later, more popular, And She Closed Her Eyes, but the general ideas are similar, and this album is really only slightly more jazzy. However, there are really no memorable melodies here to really captivate. Its an okay album, but lacks any...

Sliding over hesitant, jazzy arrangements, Stina Nordenstam's little-girl-lost voice conjures up a dreamscape of its own, full of the details of the everyday juxtaposed against a spacey weirdness. She whispers of lost opportunities of love in "She watches him from behind" and gently mocks her own melancholy with lines like "my sister needs a cigarette to take her through the day, I need this". Hiding behind this lunar lyricism are some glorious jazz hooks that make for captivating listening. Overall, Nordenstam has created the just the right soundtrack to nights of introspection and insomnia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect...., 13 Aug 2010
This review is from: Memories Of A Color (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite albums of all time .It has quite a Jazz kind of vibe , and although I'm not a fan of most Jazz or Jazz inspired music , this blew me away back in 1995 when I first listened to it , and I still love it now.

The simply beautiful "Another Story Girl" has to be my all time favorite songs by Stina or anyone else , and the rest of the album is just wonderful too....

I bought a compilation Christmas CD and Stina Nordenstam featured on the CD. I hadn't heart of her before, but thought she had a really lovely and unusual voice, so decided to buy her own CD "Memories Of A Color". I was pleasantly surprised and enjoy listening to her voice.

Stina Nordenstam is unique. "Soon after Christmas" is surely one of the most beautiful songs you will ever hear.

Smooth, classy, sophisticated. A superb album that warrants a buy just for her bittersweet voice. Superb.

It falls short of the later, more popular, And She Closed Her Eyes, but the general ideas are similar, and this album is really only slightly more jazzy. However, there are really no memorable melodies here to really captivate. Its an okay album, but lacks any cutting edge, so its only 3 stars from me. Expect quiet moods and relaxed sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review by a music fan from Scone, Scotland, 26 Oct 2001

This review is from: Memories Of A Color (Audio CD)
This Cd is one which has many underlying stories. Each track is reaping with quality. Stinas voice was at first weird, but it soon grows to become a beautiful sound accompanied by totally relaxing melodies. Well worth a listen especially if you are trying to relax.
