This review is from: Hed Kandi - Back to Love Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
This album is truly spectacular and really took me back to the late 80's club scene! Listening to it brought me out in goosebumps! If you were THERE then you MUST buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Among the best dance music compilations I have heard., 29 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hed Kandi - Back to Love Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
This CD encompasses many of the really big dance anthems from the last decade. The fact that each tune is a full dance mix really takes you back to the club days of DJ's like Graeme Park who would regularly play these tunes in his sets at The hacienda, Manchester. A real pleasure to hear a proper anthems album.

5.0 out of 5 stars 12" mixes!, 11 Oct 2003
This review is from: Hed Kandi - Back to Love Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
This album contains some of may favourite 12" mixes OF ALL TIME!! Alison Limerick "Where love lives" in the masterful full length mix! And is if that was not enough, how long did I search for the long version of "Let the beat hit 'em" by Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam? Well I searched no further when I purchased this album! Consideroing the sublime enjoyment you get from "Space Cowboy" and "Shine on" it's worth getting just for the tracks I have mentioned if you like full on piano, great bouncing baselines and catchy vocals. If you want the full on originals of some of the all time greats, un mixed with their full intros this is the disc and the label for you. Collectors dream, (If you buy multiple copies of tracks just for the mix!) listeners delight! You just can't buy enough of the back to love albums! Go and get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent 80s/90s House Compilation, 7 Nov 2013

This review is from: Hed Kandi - Back to Love Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
Not the sort of music/album I'm prone to reviewing I'll admit, but as this stonking double CD collection of (predominantly) late-80s/early-90s house (or as Wikipedia would have it, Nu-Disco, 'a romantic variety of disco-box house music' - whatever that might mean) was languishing on a shelf gathering dust, I thought I would unearth it once again, to (re-)discover its irresistibly intoxicating sounds. Listening again takes me back to that '80s soul' period in my 'musical development' - Robbie Vincent on Radio London and visits to Nicky Holloway's Special Branch at the Royal Oak in Tooley Street and later Sin at the Astoria.

Of the songs here (many of them 'special remixes' of one sort or another) particular nostalgic favourites are Ten City's That's The Way Love Is (September's bar in Hackney Road) and Adeva's stunning Musical Freedom (although at a mere 6 mins 21 secs this version falls rather short of the 12" vinyl version that I have). Elsewhere, we have brilliant versions of Frankie Knuckles' Tears, Jamiroquai's Space Cowboy (the astonishing Morales mix), Mantronix's Got To Have Your Love and Young Disciples' Apparently Nothing, plus killer cuts from three outstanding female artists of the era - Alison Limerick's Where Love Lies, Chaka Khan's Ain't Nobody and Gwen McCrae's All This Love That I'm Giving (the last two being original versions). With 22 tracks in all, clocking in at around 140 minutes this is a mega-collection (and, for me, easily the best thing I ever heard from Mark Doyle's Hed Kandi Records).

Although it may be rather difficult to pick up this collection now for less than the average mortgage, I would recommend to anyone into these sounds (and who does not own the majority on vinyl or in some other form) that if you come across this double CD in any bargain bin just buy it! It's definitive for the period.
