4.0 out of 5 stars 2CD version a must !
Perhaps 4 stars is a bit harsh, as this collection contains all the highs from their 5 albums and is a wonderful asset to have in any collection. It shows to illustrate how truly important the Tribe was in its day (up to and including Midnight Marauders). I bought the Anthology, but now wish I'd just got the original albums which play the tracks in their proper context. I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy the Albums
This is a waste of time.
Get the Low end theory and Midnight Marauders instead.
You get all of the classics from their best period.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2CD version a must !, 22 Nov. 2001
This review is from: The Anthology (Audio CD)
Perhaps 4 stars is a bit harsh, as this collection contains all the highs from their 5 albums and is a wonderful asset to have in any collection. It shows to illustrate how truly important the Tribe was in its day (up to and including Midnight Marauders). I bought the Anthology, but now wish I'd just got the original albums which play the tracks in their proper context. I guess because its a compilation means it doesn't get the 5 stars.
If you do want to buy this compilation you will probably want to get some of the original albums afterwards. So you MUST MUST MUST (!) get the 2CD version which includes the absolutely essential mixes of Applebum, El Segundo, Can I kick it, Scenario and Oh My God. These mixes on the separate CD are the best work the Tribe ever did. As for next buys, the 5 star 'Low End Theory' is an essential second purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well ..., 4 May 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Anthology (Audio CD)
Ive been tracking down a load of songs from a Portishead mix tape for ages now and I found one on this anthology. That WAS the reason I bought it, but having bought it, it has to be one of the most played CDs I have. Every single track is just awesome. DO buy it..

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Tribe..., 9 July 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology [VINYL] (Vinyl)
Well, if you don't already possess all of the tribe albums - which if you don't, you REALLY should, this would be an amazing substitute for them. Part of the native tongues, Tribe have been producing top quality hip-hop with REAL musicans such as Ron Carter for many more years than most of the poor excuses that pass for hip-hop artists today (and I probably mean more than most!!). As i have already said, if you don't have the back catalogue already, buy this and you'll want to get out and buy the other albums anyway - The real tribe gem in my eyes is "the Low End Theory", it's just a case of finding a copy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars This cd kicks ass, 10 Jan. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Anthology (Audio CD)
This album is brilliant. All the best TCQ songs are on it. The beats, cuts and scratches are all original and don't get too repetetive ( as many hip hop songs can be ). The album features additional vocals from Busta Rhymes and Faith Evans. I recommend that you buy this...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive ATCQ Collection, 10 July 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Anthology (Audio CD)
This is a great, definitive collection of tracks by one of the most innovative underground/old-skool hip-hop groups ever. All the best tracks are included in this set, as well as a bonus disc featuring some good remixes. The classic 'Can i Kick it' is my personal favourite track. All the tracks are well produced by DJ Ali Shaheed Mohammed and the rapping by Phife and Q-Tip is top notch. I reccomend this as an introduction to A Tribe Called Quest, or as a handy compilation to take on holiday when you can't take your entire CD collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A blinder, 27 Jan. 2000
This review is from: The Anthology (Audio CD)
This CD makes you realise just how good "A tribe called quest" really can be. After "Beats Rhymes and Life", which was a good album but not amazing, it's reasuring to get a copy of this, and be reminded that these are the people who brought such classics as "Bonita Applebum" and "Can I kick it" to us in the first place.
What can I sy ... go out and get this now ... a must for any hip-hop fan.

A T C Q have always been at the forefront of groundbreaking hip hop, and this anthology is the definitive guide. it will appeal to all from the seasoned ATCQ traveller, to those experiencing them for the first time. TRIBE:ANTHOLOGY should be part of any music entusiast's collection. NOT YOUR AVERAGE 'BEST OF . . ' COMPILATION
