5.0 out of 5 stars Joe does it yet again!, 17 May 2001

Having bought all Joe's material since 1973, it is hard to believe that he continues to come up with album after album of such high quality material - duff releases there have been, but they are few and far between and certainly none in the last decade. This album is no exception. It is simply outstanding. It has a slightly different feel to Joe's last few releases, but the songs just keep growing on you more and more. Accepted, it was perhaps a mistake to record the Jennifer Warnes song 'Manhattan'- no-one(not even the master of interpretation himself)will match the original. The same is true of the Roachford track 'naked without you'. Although these are done very well, I feel the production was not quite good enough to do the vocals justice - unusual, because production always ranks very highly on Joe's material. Still, those who have not heard the original versions will be very happy.I defy anyone with a soul not to be moved by 'where would I be now', 'On my way home' and 'she believes in me'. If you are a fan of Joe, don't hesitate to buy - you won't be disappointed. If you've ever thought of buying a Joe Cocker album but wasn't sure what to go for, this album will give you a much better feel for the real artist than a lot of the compilations released. I Can't recommend this release too highly and the amazing thing is, it's not even Joe's best LP!

This is a really nice blend of tracks from the Sheffield crooner.
He has an amazing and uplifting voice which he can belt out one minute and mellow the next.
This is definitely a more mature sound which he controls wonderfully. You sense that it's a relective piece of work looking back over the years over a career that spands several decades and yet there's a freshness and positive feel about the whole CD.
