5.0 out of 5 stars Actually Juan-Les-Pins 25/07/1969 - great concert though!
One star for this CD? Ridiculous. The performance is great, sound quality excellent, it's only sin being the venue is incorrectly labelled Montreux when it is in fact Juan-Les-Pins on 25th July 1969. Historically important as it documents the quintet's transition to electric instumentation while still performing repertoire including Milestones, Round About Midnight, I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Montreux . . .
Not Montreux, but the Juan-les-Pins July 25 1969 concert also released by Sony but virtually unobtainable/unaffordable in that issue. This company (JazzDoor) seems to specialize in mislabelling their Davis issues, the/one other case being their untitled issue (Jazz Door 1201) that claims to be 'Recorded live in Paris, 1969', but is in fact two chunks from the Teatro...

Historically important as it documents the quintet's transition to electric instumentation while still performing repertoire including Milestones, Round About Midnight, I Fall In Love Too Easily, along with newer material such as Miles Runs The Voodoo Down, It's About That Time, Sanctuary & Directions, etc. Indispensable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full on...., 8 Oct. 2013

With the bloodsuckers on MarketPlace now asking in excess of £25 for the original Sony release I guess we have to be grateful to Jazzdoor for this mis-identified performance (see other reviews). It's an absolutely thumpin' affair: raw, energised, envelope pushing stuff. If you get hooked then the good news is there's a fair few other recordings from the same tour/year - all equally valid as musical statements from a band that really was challenging just about every musical convention of the time. Check out the superb 'Live at the Fillmore East: It's about that time' from 1970 and compare it with what you've heard here. It's one big trip....

Haven't heard this 'Montreux' one, but samples can be heard on Amazon France. Hope this helps (hard info courtesy of Miles Ahead site, of course).
