I was lucky to see Cardiacs at Reading festival in 1986 (see rude bootleg) and have been a fan ever since. To describe them, well...a six piece, comprising of drums, percussion, keyboards, guitar, bass, sax and vocals. Playing dischordant, fast, intricate, manic, funny and wild music. They definitely have their own sound and it constantly amazes me and makes me smile at the imagination put into the songwriting and musicianship put into their music. Just try dancing to them, its virtually impossible, because the tempo changes regularly and is often very abstract. Yet at the same time they have their own anthems that you can jump up and down to.
Tim Smith the singer/guitarist, writes most of the material sounds angry and demented. The mood of their music goes from fast to slow, mellow to angry, childish to well... who knows?
