5.0 out of 5 stars The lost masterpeice, 6 Aug. 2007

For Aerosmith this album must have some sort of personnel hoodoo attached to it. They rarely (almost never) play any of these tracks live.
Maybe that's understandable as it comes from the period when Joe Perry quit the band in 1979.

However, it wasn't called "Right in the Nuts" for nothing & it is verging on tragic that classic Rock n' Roll as outstanding as this has been largely ignored & overlooked.

It features atleast six Aeroclassics:

No Surprise - In Steven Tyler's own opinion, his best ever lyrics! And an absolute killer track.
Chiquita - This rocks to it's core and just about sums Aerosmith up & they NEVER play it!!!
Reefer Headed Women - In '79 Aerosmith oozed the blues from every pore.
Remember (Walking in the Sand) - A great cover that should have been a huge hit.
Plus Cheesecake & Mia

Of all Aerosmith's 70's albums I play this one the most. Like a vintage wine, it has aged quite remarkably.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly strong., 4 Sept. 2007

Considering the band was falling apart and as Joe Perry put it, they were drug addicts dabbling as musicians rather than musicians dabbling in drugs, this album is a class act.

The state of the band is evident in the cover, but the music is second to none. It starts off with the classic No Surprize, one of Aerosmith's best tracks. There is a tired, ragged, but rich version of Remember Walking In The Sand.

The highlight has to be Cheese Cake, with fantastic steel guitar from Joe Perry who left the band during the making of it. Other very strong songs are Bone To Bone, Reefer Headed Woman and a beautiful song called Mia, written by Steven Tyler about his newborn daughter.

Tom Hamilton and Joey Krammer are as ever the backbone of Aerosmith and are probably responsible for holding them together during the dark times.

Night In The Ruts is highly recommended.

That the band could produce an album as good as this under the circumstances deserves praise,i've criticised the two preceding albums,so credit where credit is due.Opening with one of their greatest ever tracks 'No Surprise' the album gets of to a flyer, why this didnt feature more in the live arena is beyond me,the stuttering riff of 'Chiquita follows and is another corker,a quality cover of 'Remember Walkin In The Sand' is next followed by the albums other classic track 'Cheesecake' featuring superlative guitar playing from Perry.

The blues based combo of 'Three Mile Smile/Reefer Headed Woman never fails to bring a smile with some serious groovin before 'Bone To Bone' crashes in like an outake from 1975's TOYS IN THE ATTIC.Perry comes to the fore again with the Yardbirds cover 'Think About It' before once again another power ballad 'Mia'

A fantastic disc which should have taken them back to the top, sadly Perry left, taking the best songs with him, according to Tyler, was that true, well listen to his solo album,'LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKIN' and judge for yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good one from a band on the edge., 9 July 2012

I like this one, but for many aerosmith fans this one was the weakest of their 1970's output. It still had great songs on it like 'reefer headed woman' and such but you could feel it was a band falling apart is some ways. Since it was aerosmith it shipped gold (500,000 sold ) then fell off the charts, the uk doesn't even have a native cd of it! which is lame. Fans wanted a stronger focused effort. But these guys just needed to clean up and come back; which they later did to great success. This had a minor hit on it. 'walking in the sand' but after 'rocks' fans were waiting for a harder release. this wasn't it. But it's not a bad release at all. It's no rocks" but it's still better than some other bands efforts.

Here the band groove with sleeze and grease the first two tracks are good enough to be classics the rest follow on there is the world famous Aerosmith sound that Jack Douglas seems to capture and to me when I first got this , just couldnt stop playing it.

This is one of my favourite Aerosmith albums.
the songs are just great.
It rocks
The last song on Toys, Rocks & this album (Mia) are amazing, I'm disappointed that other Aerosmith albums don't have that last bluesy/ power ballad song at the end.

This fantastic 1979 album was the last album made before the departure of lead gutarist Joe Perry and rythem guitarist Brad Whitford. The album explodes into 'No Surprize' a personal favourite of Steven Tyler. Another great track 'Chesecake' features a great riffs and solo parts on guitar. 'Think about it' is a great track and my personal favourite on this album, fast riffs and great vocals - sums up the album - This is a must have album for any Aerosmith or rock fan!
