5.0 out of 5 stars this is chill out r and b at its very best - no question, 19 Feb 2002
This review is from: All That I Am (Audio CD)
I have followed joe right from the beginning when he did 'im in luv'. you will not find a better r&b album anywhere, his latest stuff is ok and has a few classic tracks as always, but i dont know of any song that can touch 'love scene' when u are in the mood for that kind of track, this album is simply awesome and it is one of those that you can listen too from start to finish, no need to flick between tracks. the only disappointment is that he is not recognised in the uk, massive talent but i doubt we will ever see him perform to big audiences here. if you really are an rand b addict you cant go wrong here, anyone disagree - i doubt it. superb. i have had this album for 4 years and i still play it as regularly as when i first bought it, it really is that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highest Recommendation, 20 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: All That I Am (Audio CD)
With the release of his new album, I thought I'd review his second album (yes, it's not his first album, that was on the Polygram label back in 93!). All That I Am is a great R'n'B album. First off, Joe is a solid vocalist. Second of all, he's a solid romantic/sexual lyricist, so if you are shocked by, ahem, very graphic references which are thinly disquised behind immuendo, then this album may not be for you. However, the music may not be to all tastes. It borders on slightly passè for it's time but the lyrics make up for it. Joe is an incredibly romantic lyricist, to the point where his romantic numbers are almost moving (personally, they are but they might not be to all). Songs like "All That I Am" and "No One Else Comes Close" are immensely sentimental and romantic, while "The Love Scene", "Sanctified Girl" and "All The Things" are of a more sexual nature. However, all the tracks except "U Shoulda Told Me" are good, some are better than overs. In my opinion, it's a brilliant album with at least 4 A-side quality songs, with the rest being more than just good filler. Good tracks to average-to-bad tracks is 11:1.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive R n B album..., 6 Aug 2002
This review is from: All That I Am (Audio CD)
"All That I am" is, without question, an awe inspiring album. Joe's smooth vocals are equally adept at performing up tempo or slow grooves, and the album demonstrates this to good effect. "All the things (Your man Won't Do)" and "No one else comes close" fall into the latter catagory, and are love songs of real quality. However, my personal favourite's are his quicker tracks. The driving bassline of "Come around" is compelling, whilst "Sanctified Girl" is possibly one of the most complete R n B teacks ever produced, with a head-bobbing beat and powerful piano chords accompanied by the finest vocal performance on the album. Rarely does a CD arrive that defines a genre, yet this certainly is an album on that level. 5 stars is the maximum that can be awarded, however it really is good enough to be nearer a six! No collection could truely be considered complete without this audio masterpiece.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost but not quite, 3 April 2003

Having been raised on the soulful tones of the likes of Luther Vandross, George Benson, Freddie Jackson, Glenn Jones et al, for some time now I have been searching for their modern day equivalent. So many artists have promised so much but not quite made the grade, Keith Sweat, Gregory Abbott, Donell Jones to name but a few but with this album Joe has nearly come good. The first 2 tracks, "All the things" and "Love Scene" will simply blow you away and I defy you not to play them over and over again. As with all albums it is hard to maintain the momentum, particularly when you start with such classics. However, Joe almost succeeds with All That I Am and thankfully there are no annoying moments of "rap" madness. If you're looking for an album to chill out to or even better, make love to, then look no further. As mentioned the first 2 tracks are worth the admission price alone!! Enjoy.
