5.0 out of 5 stars An often overlooked classic
This is Simply Red's second album and is often overlooked in favour of the more popular Stars, New Flame and Picture Book. It's understandable as they are fantastic albums, but that isn't to say that Men and Women, doesn't contain some fabulous songs. The foot-stomping Infidelity is one of the best on the album, but there are plenty of tender ballads too and some classic...

3.0 out of 5 stars fairly patchy, overly produced
Time's a great thing, back in the 80's Simply Red could do no wrong.

A quarter of a century later this album is shown up as a fairly patchy, overly produced, wine bar soul album . Occasionally Hucknall shows himself to be a talented singer and writer like on "the right thing" "suffer" and the rather lovely "maybe someday " also his take on the Cole Porter track...

It's understandable as they are fantastic albums, but that isn't to say that Men and Women, doesn't contain some fabulous songs. The foot-stomping Infidelity is one of the best on the album, but there are plenty of tender ballads too and some classic pop all delivered with Mick Hucknall's pitch-perfect vocals. The Greatest Hits is probably a better introduction to newcomers to his music, but if you are discovering his back catalogue for the first time, don't overlook this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Their best, 31 Jan. 2011

Never mind the marshmallow nature of the albums the followed, this is when they perfecly blended pop funk with some biting, caustic, very British soul; loaded with impropriety and self doubt. Yes it sounds like the 80's but this is SR at their absolute edgiest and best.

By this point in his career Mick Hucknall was moving in a far more R & B direction and seems to be enjoying it too!
Some great singles and stand out tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Classic" Simply red, 18 Sept. 2011
This review is from: Men & Women (Audio CD)
Having kept my vinal "LP" of men and women,I thought it was about time I got the cd to complete my Simply Red collection.
With this being the special edition its a classic, if you only buy it to listen to "Every time we say goodbye" its worth every penny!
As this was one of their first albums you can see how their music developed from this.
Excellent!!

This is a brillant album. And includes the single 'The right thing' The voices and music is played in tune. Including backing vocals and instruments. And was recorded in the 1980's and has an 1980's theme to the album.
