This review is from: Escapade (Audio CD)
I love this album, maybe because many of its songs take me back to the mid-eighties when I was a young boy, living in Melbourne. That aside, 'Escapade' (Tim's first solo album, back from 1983)is definitely worth a listen for any fans who have yet to hear it.
Quite removed from Tim's new raw, rockier self, found on the superb 'Say it is So' and 'Feeding the Gods', 'Escapade' offers a more gentle stroll through 10 catchy, melodious pop songs, which will brighten up any day. For me personally, these songs eclipse a lot of those Tim was writing in the final days of Split Enz.
One thing I would advise if you're going to buy this album is to opt for the UK-European version with the track 'Below the Belt'. The Australian version omits this track, replacing it with the less-inspiring, steel-drummed 'Grand Adventure'.
Of all Tim's solo work I would rank 'Escapade' well above his pleasing, but patchier Self-titled and 'Big Canoe' albums.
