4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic playing and immaginative interpretation, 12 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Oboe Concerto in C and in D (Berglund, Co of Europe) (Audio CD)
Increadible! Dougie Boyd is without doubt one of the finest oboists in the world, and he certainly proves it with this marvelous CD. The Strauss is particularly beautiful, with each phrase having direction and subtle nuances that delight over and over again. The sound is rich and warm, and backed beautifully by the orchestra, many of which often fail to live up to expectations. The only quibble I have about this CD is that the Mozart is a little unintentive. This is no fault in itself, but if you are looking for a classic interpretation of the piece, I might suggest recordings by Gordon Hunt. All in all a brilliant recording, if nothing else, buy this CD for the Strauss, it is so moving and powerful.

I bought this CD really for the Strauss but having listened to it i enjoyed the Mozart just as much. Great recording and performance too.
