5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent history of Priest
From the moment that you put on the first disc, and The Hellion screams in your ears before powering into Electric Eye, you know exactly what you're letting yourself in for - 32 tracks of some of the finest heavy metal ever made. 1.0 out of 5 stars Awful compression ruins this completely.
I purchased this because i thought that as it was compiled by priest it would be fantastic, and yes the songs are all brilliant, great choices.
But unfortunately the remaster is absolutely terrible,it isn't overly loud but it has been seriously compressed and every song sounds horrible and washed out, much like all the back catalogue.
I cannot believe nobody has...

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent history of Priest, 24 Nov 2000

This review is from: Metal Works - '73-'93 (Audio CD)
From the moment that you put on the first disc, and The Hellion screams in your ears before powering into Electric Eye, you know exactly what you're letting yourself in for - 32 tracks of some of the finest heavy metal ever made. This collection showcases an illustrious 20 year history, and although some of the earlier material sounds a little out of place next to the newer stuff, the set wouldn't be complete without it. As mentioned in the liner notes, this is not a greatest hits package, but rather a collection of tracks that sum up the essence of Priest over their career. Thankfully, this means we get to hear lesser known tracks like "Before the dawn" as well as all the old favourites. A must for any metal fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best of Priest., 5 Mar 2006

This album is pure brilliance. It filters out some of the worse Priest songs and leaves you with the very best. Each song is brilliant, and has a massive range of songs, so it will appeal to many.
The only problem with this album is that once you've got this album, any other Priest album will be spoilt as you've already heard many of the songs before.
However, don't let this stop you. Unlike the other albums, where they may be 4 out of 10 good songs, this album picks up on them good songs and adds all the good songs from the other albums too, getting rid of all the 'worse' songs.
In conclusion, the best Priest album ever. It is best suited to newer fans, less familiar with Priest, as it provides a sample from every point in their career.
This will be the first in a large collection of Preist albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY IT NOW!, 12 July 2003

This is not a best of or greatest hits collection, it was put together by Priest themselves to coommemorate 20 years recording. They did a wonderful job, this double album spans from 1977's Sin After Sin up until 1990's Painkiller. It starts of with the brilliant Hellion and Electric Eye and from then on does not put a foot wrong. Just check out, Delivering The Goods, Metal Gods, Turbo, Breaking The Law, You've Got Another Thing Coming, Before The Dawn, Heading Out To The Highyway and of course the classic, Beyond The Realms of Deaths. There are many more. Probably one of the best heavy metal band compelations ever. Also comments by Priest about each of the songs. It is superlative. BUY IT!

I cannot believe nobody has noticed this as the songs are nowhere near as full sounding as the original ones.
Why do people bother remastering older albums for?,its very rare they sound better.
Take the pixies albums for instance, they have been released a couple of times and soon will be again in a box set,and not once have they been remastered!
A lesson to be learned here i think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ass kickin!, 11 Mar 2005

This album kicks ass far beyond the realms of possibility when it comes to kicking ass!
First album I bought of priests, and it certainly wasnt the last. Roughly about 3 hours of solid priest, if you want a place to start with priest and arent too sure about buying an album, then buy this. I guarantee you will then go on to buy their full back catalogue. They have never been beaten, and now that they are back together once more, it looks like they never will be beaten. You arent a metal fan if you dont own this!
