5.0 out of 5 stars Yes!
I searched everywhere for the audio copy of this!

Definitely worth a buy; a great live set of The Cure which features 12 classics.

Personally I'd say this performance was done in contrast to the much more popular 'Show' they did a year before, which features mainly singles. This album features fan classics like The Figurehead and Charlotte Sometimes...

The Cure possibly earned some criticism in 1994. This was one of two live albums released that year, the other being the high profile 'Show' which was accompanied by a full on concert film that had limited screenings in venues around the world. This release came with no film and little fanfare. It was considered justified for two reasons 1) It was a charity release (like their earlier excelent Entreat album documenting an appearence at Wembley during the Disintegration Tour) and 2) It contained songs that the cure rarely played live. Essentially this made the album a hardcore-fans-only release. The tracklist is one that made me snap up the album as soon as I saw it. The Figurehead, Close To Me, One Hundred Years... some of my favorites played out by a modern (well for 1994) incarnation of the group.
Sadly I was a little dissaponted, the bad sound tired on this release, Roberts voice strained. I'm not sure exactly when during the Wish tour this concert was recorded but I'm gathering it was dear the end or after a rather exhaustive week gigging. This is far from the Cure at their best and is, in my opinion, the worst sounding of their to date released live albums. For the versions of the rare songs this is an intersting addition to any fans collections but if you are a passive or new fan looking to sample The Cure live then I'd suggest either Concert for their earlier raw intense flavour or the Show video for their bigtime modern gloss and drama. Paris features a very good band, playing very good songs... possibly with a very bad hangover.

I'd also go as far to say the band were at their peak here in terms of material behind them and playing together, so you wouldn't want to miss out on this if you're a Cure fan.

Buy, buy, and more buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Just My Review....., 22 May 2001

Show featured mostly hit singles; Paris features the songs that built their cult, including "Close to Me" and "Letter to Elise." Consequently, most fans will find this the more interesting of the two live albums, and, out of the two records, it is the more consistent and satisfying.
