This review is from: Move On Up: The Singles Anthology 1970-90 (Audio CD)
If like me, you have always admired the powerful work of Curtis Mayfield but had'nt got round to buying all the album re-issues, here's the perfect start. For this massive 39 track collection is the singles anthology. It demonstrates just how consistent Mayfield was with the quality of his output, from the anthem that is 'move on up' in 1971 through to his offerings in the 1980's such as the sublime 'Tripping out'. Unusually all the versions on this CD are single/radio edits, this would normally be a drawback but due to the shear amount of material here it works fine. Once this CD goes in the player, allow yourself plenty of time, as you will not be able to stop it. Whichever period in Mayfields' career you favour, its all here, along with detailed liner notes that build a neat picture of Mayfields life. Rest in peace Curtis, your messages will live forever.
