5.0 out of 5 stars A 'must' for your collection
One of Velvet Acid Christ's earlier albums; 'Fun With Knives' is a 12 track CD that takes dark electro by the horns and adds its own unique, bloody twist. Hit VAC tracks such as the original version of 'Decypher', 'Fun With Drugs' & 'Fun With Knives' will get you hooked to Bryan Erickson's work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
Excellent use of sound-bites from films such as Event Horizon, Star Trek etc used with great effect (apparently Hellraiser clips too!). A good tracklist, highlights include the powerful 'There is no God' and 'Psycho', both of which lean more to the aggresive side of the group. 'Fun with Knives' and 'Fun with Drugs' as well as 'Speedball OD' are all fast-paced, again with...

VAC uses an array of ominous themes and well-placed samples to enhance its disturbing tracks; ('Fun With Drugs', 'Psycho'), yet balances the album by including club-orientated numbers; ('The Darker Inside Me', 'Speedball O.D').

You'll notice that a lot of the tracks don't really have a set arrangement to them; since they just flow into different levels which seem to blend very well. It's pretty hard to compare the originality of VAC to other artists; but some tracks may be suited to fans of 'Headscan' or 'Negative Format'.

Track 66 is the bonus track 'Futile'.

Fans of the songs 'Decypher' and 'Futile' may want to seek these different versions:
Decypher (Force = Authority Mix)
Futile ([...] Mix)

Excellent use of sound-bites from films such as Event Horizon, Star Trek etc used with great effect (apparently Hellraiser clips too!). A good tracklist, highlights include the powerful 'There is no God' and 'Psycho', both of which lean more to the aggresive side of the group. 'Fun with Knives' and 'Fun with Drugs' as well as 'Speedball OD' are all fast-paced, again with perhaps excessive sound-bite usage! The overall effect of the album is that it perhaps makes better background music rather than attentive listening, mainly due to the repetetiveness of a melody/section of a song. Not a lot of variety within the tracks, but just about enough variety between the tracks to make it a good listen. Even if you find you only like a few tracks a great deal on the album (like me), those tracks often seem good enough to warrent the whole album being bought.

My favourite VAC album. More trance/goa-trance influenced than previous releases, slightly less harsh also. Definately an easier listen than follow-up two albums.
Tracks such as Fun With Drugs and The Dark Inside Me are choice cuts, but the album has a lot to recommend. Bryan's programming is stronger and tighter than ever before, his song construction has skipped a level; tracks are filled with movement and only on repeated listens do you begin to hear the world beneath the surface...
