5.0 out of 5 stars Quick Reviews!
Maiden's fourth album would build upon what they had created with Number Of The Beast, giving fans another set of metal anthems. This was another huge album for the group received well by fans and critics, and selling millions around the world. Nicko McBrain joined as new drummer and remains to this day setting in place the classic line-up. After the success of their last...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy the Vinyl picture disc for the sound
This is an outstanding album on CD but this latest reissue on 180g vinyl is a very poor pressing, the sound is inconsistent, full of scratches and pops.
The art work on the disc is fantastic and almost justifies the purchase but I won't be buying any more of these releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metal Classic., 6 Sep 2006

This review is from: Piece Of Mind (Audio CD)
Up there with Powerslave as another classic Maiden album. This album rocks & anyone who thinks the tracks towards the end are fillers must be completely off their rocker. Sun & Steel is a metal classic with a melodic chorus that Iron Maiden could only dream about writing these days. In fact all these songs rock, Still Life is an absolute classic..ahhh it takes me back, when Nicko McBrains backwards voice announces not to meddle with things you don't understand it makes a tingle go through me & my frizzy permed hair stands on end. This is a power metal classic & the guitar playing is almost as good as mine, however none of the band members are as good looking as me. Don't let that put you off though, buy it now!

4.0 out of 5 stars smashing but not quite a masterpiece, 3 May 2006

iron maiden progressed alot in this timely album that has some choice cuts ,sadly it isnt all killer, there is some filler thrown into the mix, anyway that is the only downside but what we have is nicko mcbains first album as drummer and his excellence shines throughout and helped move iron maiden forward in terms of the quality of the sound of the songs.

album opener where eagles dare shines like a beacon and is a class introduction to iron maiden circa 1983,revelations follows and it is a classic that has followed the bands tight live show ever since such is its moving power, other classics like flight of icarus, die with your boots on and trooper are all on here and if that isnt reason enough to get this then i dont know what is,the album also has classic iconic artwork of eddie in his legendary trooper outfit, this was the follow up to the masterpiece that was number of the beast and although it doesnt better it,it is a fine album in its own merit and every metaller should have a copy of this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another strong album, 6 Oct 2006
This review is from: Piece Of Mind (Audio CD)
Although not the best Maiden album of the 80's this is still a competent effort. The sound has been slowed down somewhat since the first album and begins to show cracks in the Maiden armour at times. The good; Where Eagles Dare, Revelations, Trooper and Still Life. The average; Icarus, Die with ya boots.. and Sun & Steel. The bad; Quest for Fire and To Tame a Land - which is way to long and boring (a sign of things to come)

2.0 out of 5 stars Downhill from here, 17 Nov 2003

This album is completely overrated.
Iron Maiden was an incredibly powerful and exciting band while emerging during the early '80s. However, when great drummer Clive Burr left after 1982’s Beast on the Road Tour the true heavy metal magic of the band totally dissipated. Notwithstanding, the band had attained enough momentum to become huge afterwards (commercially speaking). Maiden’s brilliant preceeding album Number Of The Beast opened the door for success, no matter what kind of album would follow it... and a real bad one came along.
Piece Of Mind is an overrated showcase of washed-up heavy metal riffs, theatrics, goofy lyrics and screaming cliches. The compositions and drum patterns are very repetitive and boring. The music style became monotonous and more predictable ever since the release of this album. For a strange reason, though, most fans really bought into the new Maiden despite the fact that lazy live performances were night and day compared to Maiden’s highly energetic concerts of their recent past. With Piece of Mind, Iron Maiden became more of a commercial product rather than a real heavy metal band. The band had lost their hunger.
With commercial success finally at hand, even Dickinson's live singing paled compared to what he had originally delivered in The Beast. Subsequent albums Powerslave and Somewhere in Time are a much better improvement. Weird, but... am I the only Iron Maiden fan who feels this way? maybe so...
"If you're gonna die... die with your boots on". Indeed.
